Drumgasm
''Drumgasm'' is a collaborative album by the drummers Janet Weiss (Sleater-Kinney, Wild Flag), Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden), and Zach Hill (Hella (band), Hella, Death Grips, Team Sleep). Recorded by Larry Crane (recording engineer), Larry Crane, the album was released on August 27, 2013, through Jackpot Records. Background Drummer Janet Weiss stated that "friendship and mutual admiration" was the genesis of the project. Prior to the recordings, Weiss proposed renting a studio for a weekend and invited Cameron and Hill, whom she met while touring. The trio recorded around 10 Musical improvisation, improvisational pieces in varying lengths. The tracks featured on the album, "Drumgasm", was originally one single piece, but were divided into two sides for technical reasons. Janet Weiss
Janet Lee Weiss (born September 24, 1965) is an American rock drummer, a member of Quasi (band), Quasi and former member of Sleater-Kinney. She was the drummer for Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, leaving after the album ''Mirror Traffic'', and contributed to the Shins' fourth studio album, ''Port of Morrow (album), Port of Morrow'' (2012). She was also the drummer for the supergroup Wild Flag. Weiss is highly regarded as a drummer; ''Stylus Magazine'' listed her in 2007 as number 48 of rock's 50 greatest drummers, while in 2014 ''LA Weekly'' placed her at number 12 in the top 20. In 2016, ''Rolling Stone'' placed her at number 90 on its list of the ''100 Greatest Drummers of All Time'', and in 2018, ''New Musical Express'' ranked her as number 25 of the top 32 rock drummers. Matt Cameron
Matthew David Cameron (born November 28, 1962) is an American musician who is the drummer for the rock band Pearl Jam. He first gained fame as the drummer for Seattle-based rock band Soundgarden, which he joined in 1986, appearing on each of the band's studio albums. In 1998, after Soundgarden's initial breakup the year prior, Cameron was invited to join Pearl Jam's U.S. Yield Tour. He then became a permanent member of the band, replacing Jack Irons. Following Soundgarden's reunion in 2010, Cameron became simultaneously a member of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. He remained with the band until its second break-up after the death of lead singer Chris Cornell in 2017. Zachary Charles Hill (born December 28, 1979) is an American multi-instrumentalist and visual artist. He is best known as the drummer and co-producer of the groups Death Grips, and the I.L.Y's, and as the drummer of math rock band Hella. Early life Zach Hill was born in Sacramento, California on December 28, 1979. He spent most of his adolescence at his father and uncle's press printing shop, where he was first exposed to classic rock music. Hill claims that he "started hearing voices in his head telling him to play the drums" when he was about 14 or 15 years old, and bought his first drum set with money he raised with a friend from a garage sale.
