Drop Tower (Cedar Fair)
Drop Tower, formerly known as Drop Zone: Stunt Tower, is the name of five drop tower amusement rides located at Cedar Fair amusement parks in the United States and Canada. Each installation varies in size and capacity. History Prior to their acquisition by Cedar Fair, the five parks owned by Paramount Parks featured a drop tower ride named ''Drop Zone: Stunt Tower'', in reference to the Paramount film of the same name. All were built by Swiss ride manufacturer Intamin, which consist of either Gyro Drop or Giant Drop models. Martin & Vleminckx constructed the Intamin-built Drop Tower at California's Great America. With the exception of both Kings Dominion's and Canada's Wonderland's towers, they are located in their park's various backlot themed areas. Pitt Fall
Pitt Fall was a drop tower ride located at Kennywood amusement park in the Pittsburgh suburb of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania. The name of the ride was a pun on the word " pitfall", a type of booby trap, but spelled with two "t"'s as in an abbreviation of "Pittsburgh". When it opened in 1997, it was the tallest drop tower in the world. The ride was manufactured by Intamin and is known in the industry as a "Giant Drop". History Construction of Pitt Fall began in July 1996 at the former site of Phantom Flyers. Pitt Fall soft opened on April 17, 1997 during a special preview day. The ride then opened on April 20, 1997. In June 2011, Pitt Fall was listed for sale and bought in early September by an undisclosed buyer. After 14 years, Pitt Fall closed for good on September 18, 2011. Space Probe (Wonderland Sydney)
Space Probe was a Giant Drop ride located at Wonderland Sydney in Australia. It was manufactured by Intamin and opened as the world's tallest and fastest free-fall ride. The ride opened in November 1995 and closed on 26 April 2004. Ride experience The ride consists of 3 vehicles around a central tube which is tall. Once passengers arrive at the front of the queue, they pass through a turnstile and enter a debriefing room via a sliding-door airlock. Once they are debriefed they leave through a second door and enter the launch bay area, guests then take their seat in their given vehicle. Riders are four abreast and are brought to a height of by a coupler. Traveling at a speed of 20 kilometres per hour (12 mph), riders reach the top of the tower in 25 seconds.
