Draguignan (; oc, Draguinhan) is a commune in the Var department in the administrative region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (formerly Provence), southeastern France. It is a sub-prefecture of the department and self-proclaimed "capital of Artillery" and "''Porte du Verdon''". The city is from Saint-Tropez, and from Nice. Name and motto According to legend, the name of the city is derived from the Latin name "Draco/Draconem" (''dragon''): a bishop, called Saint Hermentaire, killed a dragon and saved people. The Latin motto of Draguignan is ''Alios nutrio, meos devoro'' (I nourish others, I devour my own). Geography The elevation is 200 m. The highest hill near Draguignan is Malmont (551 m). Var (, ) is a department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of Southeastern France. It takes its name from the river Var, which flowed along its eastern boundary, until the boundary was moved in 1860 and the department is no longer associated with the river. The Var department is bordered on the east by the department of Alpes-Maritimes, to the west by Bouches-du-Rhône, to the north of the river Verdon by the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and to the south by the Mediterranean Sea. Flayosc (; Provençal: ''Flaiòsc'') is a commune in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, in southeastern France. Geography Flayosc is far from Draguignan, and about from the Mediterranean Sea. The village is located on a rocky hill, near the church. Three very small rivers crosses the village : the ''Pontchalade'', the ''Florieyes'' and the ''Rimalte''. Le Muy
Le Muy (; oc, Lo Muei) is a commune in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in Southeastern France. In 2019, it had a population of 9,288. Le Muy was one of the first places to be liberated in the Allied invasion of Southern France in August 1944. It lies to the southeast of Draguignan and north-northwest of Saint-Tropez. Trans-en-Provence
Trans-en-Provence (; Provençal: ''Tranç'') is a commune in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. Trans-en-Provence is famous among the ufologists as the site of an alleged UFO incident called the " Trans-en-Provence Case". History The village, which was originally located on St Victor's hill, took the name Trans (Latin: "across") on moving across the river Nartuby. The name appears in 1004, in the proceedings of the cartulary of the Abbey of Saint Victor, Marseille. At the end of the twelfth century, the village came under the authority of the Count of Provence who gave it as a fief in 1200 to Giraud de Villeneuve. Fréjus
Fréjus (; ) is a commune in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in Southeastern France. In 2019, it had a population of 54,458. It neighbours Saint-Raphaël, effectively forming one urban agglomeration. The north of the commune forms part of the Massif de l'Esterel. On 2 December 1959, the Malpasset Dam, on the Reyran River above the city of Fréjus, ruptured, killing over 400 people.
