Draconian Times
''Draconian Times'' is the fifth studio album by British band Paradise Lost, released on 12 June 1995 through Music for Nations and Relativity Records. Two tracks from the album, "The Last Time" and "Forever Failure", were released as singles with music videos, and both charted. The album was played in its entirety on the band's live record ''Draconian Times MMXI''. It was also released with '' Shades of God'' and ''Icon'' in a boxed set called ''Original Album Classics''. A song called "Another Desire" was written during the recording of ''Draconian Times,'' but not released on the album or the reissues. Instead, it was included in the "Forever Failure" single. Reception Daevid Jehnzen of AllMusic rewarded the album a score of 4.5 out of 5, calling it a mix "between stark, oppressive goth rock and crunching heavy metal" and praising Paradise Lost's ability to "create and sustain a mood". Paradise Lost (band)
Paradise Lost are an English gothic metal band. Formed in Halifax, West Yorkshire, in 1988, they are considered to be among the pioneers of the death-doom genre, and regarded as the main influence for the later gothic metal movement. As of 2005, Paradise Lost have sold over two million albums worldwide. Their line-up has remained stable for such a long-standing heavy metal band, consisting of singer Nick Holmes, guitarists Greg Mackintosh and Aaron Aedy, and bassist Steve Edmondson. Nick Holmes (singer)
Nicholas John Arthur Holmes (born 7 January 1971) is an English singer, best known as the lead vocalist of the gothic metal/doom metal band Paradise Lost and Swedish death metal supergroup Bloodbath. Biography Holmes formed Paradise Lost in late 1988 when he and the other band members were barely out of secondary school. Like other contemporaries of the British death-doom scene (Anathema and My Dying Bride), the band began purely as death metal, with Holmes using a low, guttural death grunt on their early demos and ''Lost Paradise'' (1990), '' Gothic'' (1991), and '' Shades of God'' (1992) full-lengths (though the latter two albums were not exclusively death metal in execution, and Holmes even utilized some clean vocals as well). Stylorouge is a graphic design studio based in Yalding, Kent, formed in London by creative director Rob O'Connor in 1981. Aaron Aedy
Anthony Edward Aaron Aedy (born 19 December 1969) is an English guitarist who is best known as the rhythm guitarist of the gothic metal/doom metal band Paradise Lost. He founded the band in 1988 alongside Stephen Edmondson, Gregor Mackintosh and Nick Holmes. Outside from playing the rhythm guitar, sometimes he plays acoustic guitar on some albums such as '' Shades of God'' and ''Draconian Times''. Gregor Mackintosh
Gregor Mackintosh (born 20 June 1970) is a British guitar player and singer. He is the lead guitarist in the metal band Paradise Lost, which he founded in 1988 together with singer Nick Holmes, rhythm guitarist Aaron Aedy, and bassist Steve Edmondson. He is the main composer of one of the pioneer bands and founding fathers of the gothic metal genre, considered to be influential to many other artists. Mackintosh also plays keyboards (on several Paradise Lost albums) and uses them to compose music. He founded the bands Vallenfyre, in which he is also the lead vocalist; Strigoi; and Host. Mackintosh has contributed production for the Hull industrial metal act Systemyk. After achieving early underground fame, the band experienced a commercial breakthrough in the mid-1980s, sustaining their success until the early 1990s, when they halted the release of new records in protest against their record company, WEA.
