''Resident Evil: Extinction'' is a 2007 action horror film directed by Russell Mulcahy and written by Paul W. S. Anderson. A direct sequel to '' Resident Evil: Apocalypse'' (2004), it is the third installment in the ''Resident Evil'' film series, which is loosely based on the Capcom survival horror video game series of the same name. The film follows the heroine Alice, along with a group of survivors from Raccoon City, as they attempt to travel across the Mojave desert wilderness to Alaska and escape a zombie apocalypse. In November 2005, Screen Gems gained the rights for the third installment in the franchise, which was then subtitled ''Extinction''. Anderson returned as a writer, and filming took place in Mexico with Mulcahy as the director. Russell Mulcahy
Russell Mulcahy ( ; born 23 June 1953) is an Australian director of film, television, and music videos. He began his career directing music videos for artists like Elton John and Duran Duran, before making his feature directorial debut with the horror film ''Razorback (film), Razorback'' (1984). He achieved international prominence by directing the fantasy action film ''Highlander (film), Highlander'' (1986), which spawned a Highlander (franchise), multimedia franchise. Charles Alexander Clouser (born June 28, 1963) is an American keyboardist, composer, record producer, and remixer. He worked with Trent Reznor for Nine Inch Nails from 1994 to 2000, and is a composer for film and television; among his credits are the score for the ''Saw'' franchise and ''American Horror Story''. Clouser was nominated for two Grammy Awards for Best Metal Performance in 1997. Early life Clouser was born in Hanover, New Hampshire; his father, K. ''Resident Evil'' is a action horror film series based on the Japanese video game franchise by Capcom. The German studio Constantin Film bought the rights to adapt the series to live action in January 1997. In 2000, Paul W. S. Anderson was announced as writer and director for ''Resident Evil'' (2002). Anderson continued as writer and producer for '' Resident Evil: Apocalypse'' (2004) and '' Resident Evil: Extinction'' (2007), and returned as the director for '' Resident Evil: Afterlife'' (2010), '' Resident Evil: Retribution'' (2012) and '' Resident Evil: The Final Chapter'' (2016). Survival Horror
Survival horror is a Video game genre, subgenre of horror games. Although combat can be part of the gameplay, the player is made to feel less in control than in typical action games through limited ammunition or weapons, health, speed, and vision, or through various obstructions of the player's interaction with the game mechanics. The player is also challenged to find items that unlock the path to new areas and solve puzzles to proceed in the game. Games make use of strong horror themes, such as dark mazelike environments and Jump scare, unexpected attacks from enemies.
