Tomima Edmark
Tomima Edmark (born 1957) is an American entrepreneur, author, and inventor of ''TopsyTail'', ''Halo Hat'' and ''Bowrette''. She is the founder of HerRoom and HisRoom, an online lingerie and men's underwear retailer based in Dallas, Texas. Education Edmark earned a BFA and BA degree from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri in 1979 and then she attended The University of Texas at Austin where she completed an MBA degree in 1983. Career In 1984, after receiving her MBA, she worked with IBM as a marketing executive in Dallas, before leaving in 1992. In 1989 Edmark filed for TopsyTail patent, received in April 1991 and established TopsyTail Corp. to market and sell the product. TopsyTail earned more than $150 million in revenue. Defibrillator
Defibrillation is a treatment for life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias, specifically ventricular fibrillation (V-Fib) and non-perfusing ventricular tachycardia (V-Tach). Defibrillation delivers a dose of electric current (often called a ''counter-shock'') to the heart. Although not fully understood, this process depolarizes a large amount of the heart muscle, ending the arrhythmia. Subsequently, the body's natural pacemaker in the sinoatrial node of the heart is able to re-establish normal sinus rhythm. A heart which is in asystole (flatline) cannot be restarted by defibrillation; it would be treated only by cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and medication, and then by cardioversion or defibrillation if it converts into a shockable rhythm. A device that administers defibrillation is called a defibrillator. History In 1955, Dr. Karl William Edmark created The Physio-Control Co. to sell his first Patient Monitor, which simply triggered a light whenever a patient's heart beat, and set off an alarm when a heartbeat is no longer detected. His device was patented as a "Heartbeat Indicator". After moving to Seattle, he developed the first DC Defibrillator. Medical defibrillators at the time used Alternating current which caused patients to spasm violently because of the high voltage.
