Oscar Zeta Acosta
Oscar "Zeta" Acosta Fierro (; April 8, 1935 – disappeared 1974) was a Mexican-American attorney, politician, novelist and activist in the Chicano Movement. He was most well known for his novels '' Autobiography of a Brown Buffalo'' (1972) and '' The Revolt of the Cockroach People'' (1973), and for his friendship with American author Hunter S. Thompson. Thompson characterized him as a heavyweight Samoan attorney, Dr. Gonzo, in his 1971 novel '' Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas''. Acosta disappeared in 1974 during a trip in Mexico and is presumed dead. Life and career Oscar Acosta was born in El Paso, Texas, to Manuel and Juanita (''née'' Fierro) Acosta, from Mexico and El Paso, respectively. John Means (comedian)
John Means is a former community college English instructor from Mason City, Illinois, who had gained fame in the 1980s as a stand-up comedian. Based out of San Francisco, he performed under the stage name "Dr. Gonzo." His act was a combination of standard observational humor and humorous songs, self-accompanied on electric guitar. The songs were generally parodies of popular tunes of the day; however, in contrast to contemporary musical parodists such as "Weird Al" Yankovic, whose songs are performed comically, Means' musical accompaniments were largely faithful to the original artists'. His musical sensibilities caught the attention of some of the popular musicians of the day, and he was soon performing on the same bills as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Los Lobos, and other straight musical acts. Derwyddon Dr Gonzo were a Welsh-language funk and ska band from Llanrug, North Wales. Having reached number one in Siart C2 (Welsh Language Music Chart), their music has received airplay on BBC Radio Cymru, BBC Radio 1 and Serbian radio. The band performed regularly on the Welsh language scene circuit, in addition to larger festivals such as Latitude Festival, Wakestock, Sŵn, Sesiwn Fawr Dolgellau and ''Maes B'' at the National Eisteddfod. Their second EP, ''Chaviach/Bwthyn'' was released on the Copa Label in 2008. On 27 July 2009 the band released their second album, ''Stonk!'', on the Copa label, and recorded at the Wings for Jesus Studio in Cardiff by Sir Doufus Styles.
