Dovbush (film)
''Dovbush'' () is a Ukrainian historical adventure film directed by Oles Sanin and based on the life of Oleksa Dovbush, the most famous of '' opryshky'' leaders in the Carpathian Mountains. The film is one of the most expensive Ukrainian films with a budget of UAH 120 million (state share UAH 65 million). The premiere took place on August 24, 2023 (the May 2022 release was canceled due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine). The history of cinematic references to the image of Oleksa Dovbush includes the 1959 film ''Oleksa Dovbush'' directed by Viktor Ivanov with Afanasii Kochetkov in the title role, and the 2018 film ''Legend of the Carpathians'' directed by Serhii Skobun with Valerii Kharchyshyn. Oles Sanin
Oles Hennadiyovych Sanin (; born July 30, 1972, in Kamin-Kashyrskyi) is a Ukrainian film director, actor, cinematographer, producer, musician and sculptor. An Honored Artist of Ukraine (2014); he was also awarded the Alexander Dovzhenko Ukrainian State Award. Biography Born in Kamin-Kashyrskyi in the Volyn Oblast. He graduated of the Ivan Karpenko-Kary National University of Theatre, Film and TV in Kyiv in 1993 in the actor's class (tutor: Valentyna Zymniya) and finished the film directing course for feature films (tutor: Leonid Osyka) in 1998. He made his internships in the Netherlands and the United States. In the years 1994–2000 he worked as a film director, director of photography, director of the production in the feature and documentary films' section of the Ukrainian branch of the international organisation Internews Network (presently Internews). The Carpathian Mountains or Carpathians () are a range of mountains forming an arc across Central Europe and Southeast Europe. Roughly long, it is the third-longest European mountain range after the Ural Mountains, Urals at and the Scandinavian Mountains at . Hetman
''Hetman'' is a political title from Central and Eastern Europe, historically assigned to military commanders (comparable to a field marshal or imperial marshal in the Holy Roman Empire). First used by the Czechs in Bohemia in the 15th century, it was the title of the second-highest military commander after the king in the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania from the 16th to 18th centuries. Hetman was also the title of the head of the Cossack state in Ukraine after the Khmelnytsky Uprising of 1648. Hutsuls
The Hutsuls (Hutsul/; ; ) are an East Slavic ethnic group spanning parts of western Ukraine and northern Romania (i.e. parts of Bukovina and Maramureș). In Ukraine, they have often been officially and administratively designated a subgroup of Ukrainians, and, among the Ukrainian scholars, are largely regarded as constituting a broader Ukrainian ethnic group.
