Lightfoot Professor Of Divinity
The Lightfoot Professor of Divinity is a professorship or chair in the Department of Theology and Religion at Durham University. The chair is named after the former Bishop of Durham J. B. Lightfoot. The current holder is John M. G. Barclay. Since 1832 the chair in Greek and Classical Literature at the university was also a canon professorship. This canonry was transferred to the Lightfoot Professor of Divinity in 1943. The professorship was attached to the canonry until 1985, when the non-Anglican James Dunn (theologian), James Dunn was appointed. Douglas Jones (mathematician)
Douglas Samuel Jones (10 January 1922 – 29 November 2013) was a mathematician and electrical engineer known for his works in the field of electromagnetism. He was described by The Scotsman as "one of the most outstanding British mathematicians of his generation". Life Jones was born 10 January 1922 in Corby Northamptonshire, and was educated at Wolverhampton Grammar School. He was the eldest of four children. In his spare time, Jones was known to enjoy golf, walking and photography. He and his wife Ivy had two children. Career In 1940, Jones began studying electrical engineering at Clarendon Laboratory of the Corpus Christi College, Oxford University. Jones joined the RAF in 1942 and graduated MA in applied mathematics from Oxford in 1947. He then went to Massachusetts Institute of Technology to study electrical engineering, but switched to physics, studying under Victor Weisskopf, Herman Feshbach, and Robley Evans. Credenda/Agenda
''Credenda/Agenda'' was a Christian cultural and theological journal, published under the auspices of Christ Church of Moscow, Idaho. Douglas Wilson served as editor, Douglas M. Jones as senior editor, and N. D. Wilson as managing editor. Editions were published quarterly in print form and also electronically on the internet. Canon Press, another ministry of Christ Church, also produced an audio edition. ''Credenda/Agenda'' began appearing in 1989 as a loose-paper pamphlet, though the format was revised in 1997 to a full-page magazine. The title is Latin for "Things to be believed/things to be done". Publication appears to have ended in 2012, although back issues are still for sale at the CanonPress website. Subject matter The magazine's subject matter was typically of a religious nature, though film and book reviews, satire of prominent news stories, poems, and short stories are common.
