Doug Trapp
Doug Trapp (born November 28, 1965, in Balcarres, Saskatchewan) is a former professional ice hockey left wing. He was drafted in the second round, 39th overall, by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft. He played two games in the National Hockey League with Buffalo in the 1986–87 season, going scoreless. Personal life Trapp's father Barry and both of Trapp's sons are involved with hockey. Barry began coaching the Regina Pat Blues in the 1980s and as of 2014, is involved with the Toronto Maple Leafs scouting team and Canadian National Junior team. Winger (ice Hockey)
Winger, in the game of ice hockey, is a forward position of a player whose primary zone of play is along the outer playing areas. They typically flank the centre forward. Originally the name was given to forward players who went up and down the sides of the rink. Wingers generally have the least defensive responsibilities out of any position on the ice, however they are still tasked with defensive duties such as forechecking duties or covering the point in the defensive zone. Nowadays, there are different types of wingers in the game — out-and-out goal scorers, checkers who disrupt the opponents, and forwards who work along the boards and in the corners. Penalty (ice Hockey)
A penalty in ice hockey is a punishment for an infringement of the rules. Most penalties are enforced by sending the offending player to a penalty box for a set number of minutes. During the penalty the player may not participate in play. Penalties are called and enforced by the Official (ice hockey)#Referees, referee, or in some cases, the Official (ice hockey)#Linesmen, linesman. The offending team may not replace the player on the ice (although there are some exceptions, such as fighting), leaving them short handed, short-handed as opposed to full strength. American Hockey League
The American Hockey League (AHL) is a professional ice hockey league in North America that serves as the primary developmental league of the National Hockey League (NHL). The league comprises 32 teams, with 26 in the United States and 6 in Canada. As of the 2024–25 AHL season, all 32 NHL teams held affiliations with an AHL team. Historically, when an NHL team does not have an AHL affiliate, its players are assigned to AHL teams affiliated with other NHL franchises. Rochester Americans
The Rochester Americans (colloquially known as the Amerks) are a professional ice hockey team based in Rochester, New York. They are the American Hockey League affiliate of the National Hockey League's Buffalo Sabres. The team plays its home games at the Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial. The Americans are the fourth oldest franchise in the AHL, and have the second longest continuous tenure among AHL teams in their current locations after the Hershey Bears. Rochester was awarded a new franchise in June 1956, when the Pittsburgh Hornets were forced to suspend operations after their arena, the Duquesne Gardens was razed in an urban renewal project. The 1984–85 WHL season was the 19th season of the Western Hockey League (WHL), featuring fourteen teams and a 72-game regular season. In their third season since joining the WHL, the Prince Albert Raiders put together a dominant run, winning 58 games and the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy for best regular season record. In the playoffs, the Raiders won the Ed Chynoweth Cup, President's Cup, defeating the Kamloops Blazers in the championship series. The Raiders thus earned a berth at the 1985 Memorial Cup tournament, where they won the Memorial Cup title. This was the first season for the Moose Jaw Warriors, with the Winnipeg Warriors relocating to Moose Jaw prior to the season. Regina Pats
The Regina Pats are a Canadian junior ice hockey team based in Regina, Saskatchewan. Founded in 1917, the Pats are the world's oldest continuously operating major junior hockey franchise in its original location and using its original name. The team was originally named the Regina Patricia Hockey Club, after Princess Patricia of Connaught, the granddaughter of Queen Victoria and daughter of the Governor General, Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn, the Duke of Connaught. The Saskatoon Blades topped the regular season standings to capture their second Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy. In the playoffs, the Lethbridge Broncos won the President's Cup, defeating the Portland Winter Hawks in the championship series. The Broncos thus earned a berth in the 1983 Memorial Cup tournament.
