Doug Libla (born 1952) is a former Republican member of the Missouri Senate, representing the southeasternmost part of the state. Billy Dean Burlison (March 15, 1931 – March 17, 2019) was an American politician who held office in the states of Missouri and Maryland. Biography Burlison, the son of John Ivy "J.I." and Lillie (née Marler) Burlison, was born and died in Wardell, Missouri. He attended Southeast Missouri State University and earned his law degree from the University of Missouri. Burlison was admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Missouri courts. He served in the United States Marine Corps. Burlison was a United States Democratic Party, Democrat. He represented Missouri as a member of the U. S. Congress starting with the Ninety-first United States Congress in 1969 until he was defeated in a bid for a seventh-term by Bill Emerson in 1980. A special election for Missouri's 8th congressional district was held on June 4, 2013, following the resignation of Jo Ann Emerson on January 22, 2013, to head the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. The Republican and Democratic parties selected their own nominees without a primary. The deadline to request an absentee ballot for the special election was May 29, 2013. Robert Mayer (born February 25, 1957) is an American attorney who has also worked as a farmer, broadcaster, and industrial engineering technician. He was also a Republican member of the Missouri State Senate. His term expired in 2012 and he was replaced by Doug Libla. The Missouri Senate is the upper chamber of the Missouri General Assembly. It has 34 members, representing districts with an average population of 174,000. Its members serve four-year terms, with half the seats being up for election every two years. It was founded in 1966 when voters in the counties of Butler, Carter, Ripley, and Wayne approved the taxing district of Butler, Carter, Ripley, and Wayne counties. Three Rivers is governed by a six-person board of trustees elected by residents in the college's taxing district. The college has an campus in Poplar Bluff, Missouri with full-service locations in Dexter, Kennett, and Sikeston, and in-district locations in Doniphan, Caruthersville, Piedmont, Portageville, New Madrid, and Van Buren, and offers classes at various sites and high schools throughout the region.
