Doug Dailey
Douglas James Dailey MBE (born 1944) is an English racing cyclist, former national road race champion and the former logistics manager of British Cycling. He has also been the national coach and an administrator. Biography Dailey was born in Orrell Park, Liverpool. He represented his country on many occasions including several editions of the Tour of Britain. He received the Merseyside Golden Cycle award in 1969 and 1984. He retired from competition in 1986 after 26 years and became national coach for 10 years. After a brief break he returned as logistics manager. Dailey is also former manager of Kirkby Sports Centre. He lives in Ruthin, North Wales. Dailey was logistics coordinator at the Summer Olympics for the third time in 2008, he ensured all British Cycling's kit, scientific equipment, medical back-up and the athletes themselves arrived safely in Beijing. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. The Tour of Ireland ( Irish: Turas na hÉireann, known from 1985 to 1992 as the Nissan Classic) was a bicycle stage race held in August, which ran for 35 editions over a 56-year period. Irish rider Seán Kelly recorded the most wins, four. The first Tour of Ireland race debuted in 1953 and ran until 1957. It was revived in 1965 and ran until 1985. In 1985 the 5-day ''Nissan International Classic'' took over as the Tour of Ireland. This lasted for 8 years until 1992. The race returned 15 years later, in 2007, as the Tour of Ireland and was part of the UCI Europe Tour. The organisers confirmed on 1 June 2010 that the 2010 race would not take place due to a financial shortfall, and as of 2019, there is no further news of a revival. The British Cycling Premier Calendar Road Race Series is a season-long competition run by British Cycling. It comprises a series of road bicycle races for the country's top domestic road riders. Organisation and events In 2010 points were awarded for the first 20 places in each single day road race and for the top 20 overall in stage races as follows: 100, 85, 75, 66, 58, 51, 45, 39, 34, 29, 25, 21, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2. For each stage of a stage race (including prologues) the top 15 riders are awarded points as follows: 30, 25, 21, 17, 14, 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. The British Cycling Hall of Fame was established in 2009 as part of British Cycling's 50th anniversary celebrations. On 17 December 2009, the names of fifty one people involved in cycling to be inducted into the British Cycling Hall of Fame were announced. The British National Road Race Championships cover different categories of British road bicycle racing events, normally held annually.
