Hindustani (; Devanagari: , * * * * ; Perso-Arabic: , , ) is the '' lingua franca'' of Northern and Central India and Pakistan. Hindustani is a pluricentric language with two standard registers, known as Hindi and Urdu. Thus, the language is sometimes called Hindi–Urdu. Despite these standard registers, colloquial speech in Hindustani often exists on a spectrum between these standards. Ancestors of the language were known as ''Hindui'', ''Hindavi'', ''Zabān-e Hind'' (), ''Zabān-e Hindustan'' (), ''Hindustan ki boli'' (), Rekhta, and Hindi. ''Dostana'' () is a 1980 Indian Hindi action drama film, written by Salim–Javed, produced by Yash Johar, and directed by Raj Khosla. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha, Zeenat Aman in lead roles and Prem Chopra, Amrish Puri, Helen, Pran in supporting roles. The film was a huge hit at the box-office and became the fourth highest-grosser of 1980, behind '' Qurbani'', ''Asha'' and '' Ram Balram''. ''Dostana'' was one of the last successful films directed by Raj Khosla. The film was remade in Tamil as ''Sattam'' with Kamal Haasan. ''Dostana'' () is a 2008 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy film directed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Dharma Productions. The film stars Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles and tells the story of two men who pretend to be gay to share an apartment with a girl; eventually, both fall in love with her. Mansukhani conceived the film as a tale of 3 friends living together, drawing inspiration by his own experience. Wanting to add something different to the script, he later decided to introduce homosexuality, which he thought was unexplored by Indian films, to shed light on the issue for the Indian audience. Manish Malhotra designed Chopra's costumes, and Aki Narula designed costumes for the rest of the cast. ''Dostana (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)'' is the soundtrack album accompanying the 2008 film of the same name directed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Dharma Productions, starring Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra. Vishal–Shekhar composed the six-song soundtrack, with lyrics written by Anvita Dutt Guptan, Kumaar and Vishal Dadlani. The soundtrack was released on 10 October 2008 by Sony BMG. Background ''Dostana'' soundtrack consisted of six songs composed by the duo Vishal–Shekhar. Anvita Dutt Guptan wrote the lyrics for three songs, and Kumaar wrote two songs. In addition to being a co-composer and vocalist on four songs, Vishal Dadlani wrote the lyrics for one. Besides Dadlani, Shankar Mahadevan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Master Saleem, Shreya Ghoshal, Amanat Ali and Shaan provided vocals for the other songs.
