Dos Vientos
Dos Vientos is a neighborhood of Thousand Oaks, California in westernmost portion of Newbury Park. Bordering Dos Vientos Open Space and the Santa Monica Mountains, it was a 2,350-unit housing development which was approved by the Thousand Oaks City Council in April 1988. It is an upscale and master-planned community. Major development found place after infrastructure was built to support the homes in 1998. It was the largest residential project ever within Newbury Park. It has a maximum elevation of 2,500 feet. Wildfires led to temporary evacuation of homes in 2013 and 2018. Historic designation Two large barns on the Dos Vientos Ranch became designated Ventura County Historical Landmark No. 99 in 1986. The barns are also City of Thousand Oaks Landmark No. 6. The land where the barns lie was once part of Rancho Guadalasca, which along with Rancho Conejo made up most of the Conejo Valley. It was part of an 8,000-acre farm bought by Joseph Lewis in 1906. Thousand Oaks, California
Thousand Oaks is the second-largest city in Ventura County, California, located in the northwestern part of Greater Los Angeles. Approximately from the city of Los Angeles and from Downtown Los Angeles, it is named after the many oak trees present in the area. The city forms the central populated core of the Conejo Valley. Dos Vientos Open Space
Dos Vientos Open Space is a open space area in western Newbury Park, California. It contains more than of trails used for cycling, hiking and equestrians. Originally a part of the Rancho Guadalasca Spanish Land Grant of 1836, the area is now an important wildlife movement corridor into the Santa Monica Mountains through the Point Mugu State Park. It provides a habitat for a variety of wildlife, including bobcats, mule deer, coyotes, eagles, hawks, barn owls, mountain lions, and more. It provides regional and internal trail connections, many trails offering panoramic views of the Conejo Valley, Oxnard Plain, Topatopa Mountains, Channel Islands, and the Pacific Ocean. Santa Monica Mountains
The Santa Monica Mountains are a coastal mountain range in Southern California, next to the Pacific Ocean. It is part of the Transverse Ranges. The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area encompasses this mountain range. Because of its proximity to densely populated regions, it is one of the most visited natural areas in California. Rancho Guadalasca
Rancho Guadalasca was a Ranchos of California, Mexican land grant in present-day Ventura County, California, given in 1836 by Governor Mariano Chico to Ysabel Yorba. The grant was in the southern part of the county, bordering on Los Angeles County, California, Los Angeles County. The grant extended along the Pacific coast near Point Mugu, California, Point Mugu for about eight miles and extended into the interior along Guadalasca Creek in the Santa Monica Mountains for about ten miles. This rancho lies in the extreme southern part of Ventura, southeast of the colonia. It borders Los Angeles County about two miles, on the coast about eight miles, and extends about ten miles into the interior.
