Dorothy McClendon
Dorothy V. McClendon (December 21, 1924 – May 17, 2013) was an American microbiologist and one of the first Black women to lead a scientific division in the U.S. military. As chief of the Environmental Microbiology Division at the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive Command (TACOM), she played a critical role in protecting military fuel systems and materials from microbial contamination. Her research into microbiologically influenced corrosion helped transform the way the military and industry approached fuel storage, and her contributions to biological defense remain relevant today. Minden is a small city in and the parish seat of Webster Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is located twenty-eight miles east of Shreveport. As of the 2020 census, the city had a total population of 11,928. The Main Street district of Minden is recognized as a Louisiana Main Street Community, a Louisiana Cultural Products District, and is sited on the National Register of Historic Places. Minden is the core and principal city of the Minden Micropolitan Statistical Area, consisting of all of Webster Parish, which is part of the Shreveport–Bossier City–Minden CSA. El Dorado ( ) is a city in and the county seat of Union County, on the southern border of Arkansas, United States. According to the 2020 census, the population of the city is 17,755. El Dorado is headquarters of the Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission as well as Murphy USA, Deltic Timber Corporation and a DelekUS oil refinery. The city has a downtown arts district, the Murphy Arts District (MAD); a community college, South Arkansas College (SouthArk); and a multi-cultural arts center, South Arkansas Arts Center (SAAC).
