Dorothy Kane
Dorothy Kane is a Northern Irish international lawn bowler. Bowls career Kane won the triples gold medal at the 1999 Atlantic Bowls Championships with Margaret Johnston and Donna McNally. Kane has also represented Ireland in the triples at the 2000 World Outdoor Bowls Championship. She became an Irish national champion after winning the 1998 pairs with Ruth Simpson at the Irish National Bowls Championships bowling for the Moat Park Bowls Club. Bowls, also known as lawn bowls or lawn bowling, is a sport in which the objective is to roll biased balls so that they stop close to a smaller ball called a "jack" or "kitty". The following is a list of Irish counties' coats of arms. Atlantic Bowls Championships
The Atlantic Bowls Championships was a lawn bowling competition held between national bowls organisations in the Atlantic region. The event was a qualifying event for the World Outdoor Bowls Championships until the 2021 announcement that it would no longer be held. Originally the Championships were for women only and were called the Atlantic Rim Championships. In 2007 men competed for the first time at the event. The 2001 tournament due to be held in Namibia was cancelled due to opposition from the Namibia Sports Commission. The next tournament was held in 2005. In 2021, the 2020 World Outdoor Bowls Championship was officially cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. World Bowls then decided that the World Championships would take place every two years starting in 2023. The British Isles Bowls Championships is a tournament held between the champions of their respective nations, England Scotland, Wales, combined Ireland and more recently Guernsey and Jersey. Margaret Johnston (bowls)
Margaret Johnson MBE (born 2 May 1943) is a former Northern Irish lawn and indoor bowler. Bowls career Johnston is arguably the greatest women's player of all time despite only starting outdoor bowling in 1979. From Bellaghy, County Londonderry, she joined an indoor club and played locally for many years before joining the Ballymoney Club. In her first year of the outdoors game Johnston reached the final of the Irish Singles. World Outdoor Her record in the World Outdoor Bowls Championship reads as six golds, two silver and one bronze. In 1988 she was pairs champion with Phillis Nolan, silver in the singles and bronze in the team. Four years later she won the singles and pairs (with Nolan again) and a silver in the team. In 1996 she won a third consecutive pairs title with Nolan and four years later in the 2000 World Outdoor Bowls Championship she became singles Champion again. Donna McNally
Donna McCloy ( Donna McNally, born 2 September 1972) is a Northern Irish international lawn bowler. Bowls career International McNally won the triples gold medal at the 1999 Atlantic Bowls Championships with Margaret Johnston and Dorothy Kane. Six years later she won the fours bronze medal at the 2005 Atlantic Championships. She then won the bronze medal in the fours at the 2008 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Christchurch. After taking part in the 2010 Commonwealth Games and the 2014 Commonwealth Games she was selected as part of the Northern Ireland team for the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in Queensland. National McNally won the 2000 pairs title at the Irish National Bowls Championships, bowling for the Comber Club. Twelve years later she won the 2012 fours title at the National Championships bowling for the Ballymena Bowls Club. Irish National Bowls Championships
The Irish National Bowls Championships combines Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Traditionally the game was played mainly in Northern Ireland but the Kenilworth Bowling Club of Dublin joined the Irish Bowls Association in 1906 which prompted the merger into one team. With the exception of the Commonwealth Games players continue to represent a combined Ireland team. The singles championship is called the Dr Rusk Cup named after Dr John Rusk, President of the IBA and the singles representative player at the Lawn Bowls at the 1934 British Empire Games. The Pairs is called the T.W McMullan Cup, the Triples is known as the Charlie Clawson Cup and the Fours is known as the C.L MacKean Cup.
