Dorothy Dodd (librarian)
Dorothy Dodd (April 19, 1902 – August 19, 1994) was the first State Archivist and second State Librarian of Florida. She was inducted into the Florida Women's Hall of Fame in 1986. Education Dodd attended the Florida State University, Florida State College for Women. She then graduated from Columbia University in 1925 with a master's degree in journalism. She later earned her doctorate in history from the University of Chicago. Career Dodd was appointed as Florida's first State Archivist in 1941. She preserved more than 15,000 cataloged items from around the state for the Florida Collection of the State Library of Florida, equaling a total of 260 linear feet. In addition to numerous published articles, Dodd edited ''Florida Becomes a State'' () in 1945, using many of the resources she had acquired, and later wrote ''Florida, the Land of Romance'' (). State Library And Archives Of Florida
The State Library and Archives of Florida is the central repository for the archives of state government for the state of Florida. It is located at the R.A. Gray Building on 500 South Bronough Street in Tallahassee, Florida, Florida's capital. Mandated by state law, the Florida State Archives is assigned to collect, preserve, and make available for research the historically significant records of Florida. It also stores and makes available private manuscripts and correspondence, local government records, photographs, maps, film clips, and materials that complement the official state records and Florida history. Many photos from the Florida Photographic Collection are used frequently for articles on Wikipedia and assist users in describing events in Florida history. A woman is an adult female human. Prior to adulthood, a female human is referred to as a girl (a female child or adolescent). The plural ''women'' is sometimes used in certain phrases such as "women's rights" to denote female humans regardless of age. Typically, women inherit a pair of X chromosomes, one from each parent, and are capable of pregnancy and giving birth from puberty until menopause. Female (symbol: ♀) is the sex of an organism that produces the large non-motile ova (egg cells), the type of gamete (sex cell) that fuses with the male gamete during sexual reproduction. A female has larger gametes than a male. Females and males are results of the anisogamous reproduction system, wherein gametes are of different sizes, unlike isogamy where they are the same size. The exact mechanism of female gamete evolution remains unknown. In species that have males and females, sex-determination may be based on either sex chromosomes, or environmental conditions. Most female mammals, including female humans, have two X chromosomes. Female characteristics vary between different species with some species having pronounced secondary female sex characteristics, such as the presence of pronounced mammary glands in mammals.
