Dorothi Fox
Dorothi Fox (born January 8, 1930) is an American actress who has starred in television, film and on stage. Born in New York City, she started her career in African-American theatre before moving to the big screen in the 1970s appearing in blaxploitation films such as Come Back, Charleston Blue (1972) and ''The Wiz'' (1978) as well as the comedy ''Bananas'' (1971) and the political thriller ''Three Days of the Condor'' (1975). Her career continued into the 21st century with roles in television productions including the ''Onion News Network''. Early life Fox hails from the Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan. Career Dorothi Fox began her career with the Negro Ensemble Company (NEC) in 1966 as head usher. She made her debut on Broadway in “The Last of Mrs. Lincoln” by James Prideaux. Blaxploitation
Blaxploitation is an ethnic subgenre of the exploitation film that emerged in the United States during the early 1970s. The term, a portmanteau of the words "black" and "exploitation", was coined in August 1972 by Junius Griffin, the president of the Beverly Hills-Hollywood NAACP branch. He claimed the genre was "proliferating offenses" to the black community in its perpetuation of stereotypical characters often involved in crime. The genre does rank among the first after the race films in the 1940s and 1960s in which black characters and communities are the protagonists and subjects of film and television, rather than sidekicks, antagonists or victims of brutality. The genre's inception coincides with the rethinking of race relations in the 1970s. ''Strapped'' is a 1993 American television crime drama film produced by HBO Showcase. The film was directed by Forest Whitaker and is the cinematic debut of Bokeem Woodbine. ''After the Fall'' is a 1974 American television film directed by Gilbert Cates and starred Faye Dunaway, Christopher Plummer, Bibi Andersson, Murray Hamilton, Nancy Marchand and Brooke Shields. Tragicomedy is a literary genre that blends aspects of both tragic and comic forms. Most often seen in dramatic literature, the term can describe either a tragic play which contains enough comic elements to lighten the overall mood or a serious play with a happy ending.
