Dorothea Christensen
Dorothea von der Lippe Christensen, née Frost (19 December 1847 – 28 February 1908) was a Norwegian domestic science proponent and politician. Early and personal life She was born in Veøy as a daughter of vicar Christian Frost (1810–1862) and Jensine Henriette Brodtkorb (1811–1851). She became an orphan at the age of 15, and moved to attend school in Kristiania. Helgesen finished governess school at Nissen Girls School, and also attended Eckersberg School of Painting. She worked as a governess for an attorney in Grue. In September 1871 she married physician and politician Julius Christensen (1840–1923), and moved to his hometown Sandefjord. She then became a sister-in-law of military officer Sophus Christensen, and Julius and her were parents of physician Reidar Gording and grandparents of Elisabeth Gording. Julius Christensen (6 December 1840 – 19 October 1923) was a Norwegian doctor and politician for the Conservative Party. He was born in Sandefjord as a son of ship-owner and merchant Søren Lorents Christensen (1810–1862) and Othilie Juliane Kruge (1820–1903). Hjemmenes Vel (Welfare in the Home), later Norges Husmorforbund (Norwegian Housewives' Association), was Norway's first association for housewives. Founded in Oslo (then Christiania) by Dorothea Christensen in 1898, it was also the first organization for housewives in Europe. The association functioned until the late.1970s. In 1897, Christensen had published an article in ''Husmoderen'' (The Housewife) titled "Vi husmødre slutter os sammen" (We housewives should stick together) which paved the way for the establishment of Hjemmenes Vel on 10 March 1898. Vestfold is a traditional region, a former county and a current electoral district in Eastern Norway. In 2020 the county became part of the much larger county of Vestfold og Telemark.
