Dorota Malarczyk
Dorota Malarczyk is a Polish numismatist and Islamicist, who is a curator of the Emeryk Hutten-Czapski Museum, which is the coin cabinet of the National Museum, Krakow. In 2020 the Royal Numismatic Society awarded her the Samir Shamma Prize for Islamic Numismatics. She was a member of the Organising Committee for the 16th International Numismatic Congress in Warsaw. Numismatist
A numismatist is a specialist, researcher, and/or well-informed collector of numismatics, numismatics/coins ("of coins"; from Late Latin , genitive of ). Numismatists can include collectors, specialist dealers, and scholar-researchers who use coins (and possibly, other currency) in object-based research. Although use of the term ''numismatics'' was first recorded in English in 1799, people had been collecting and studying coins long before then all over the world. Emeryk Hutten-Czapski Museum
The Emeryk Hutten-Czapski Museum (), also known as the Czapski Museum () is a branch of the National Museum of Kraków, 12 Pilsudski Street, Kraków. Count Emeryk Hutten-Czapski (born 17 October 1828 in Stankow near Minsk, died 23 July 1896 in Kraków) was a Vice-Governor of St Petersburg and an important collector of books, prints, and numismatics. He built his collection at his family estate in Stankow, today in Belarus. Fearing for the safety of the collection, being close to Russia, he moved the collection to Cracow. In 1894, he purchased a 19th-century palace, on what is today 12 Pilsudski Street, and built an addition to house his collection. He personally catalogued the collection. He died in 1896, before the addition was finished. His wife, Baroness Elzbieta Meyendorff, completed the construction of the addition, and in 1904, as per her husband's request, donated the collection to the city of Cracow. The Royal Numismatic Society (RNS) is a learned society and charity based in London, United Kingdom which promotes research into all branches of numismatics. Its patron was Queen Elizabeth II. Membership Foremost collectors and researchers, both professional and amateur, in the field of numismatics are amongst the fellows of the Society. They must be elected to the Society by the Council. The Samir Shamma Prize for Islamic Numismatics is a bi-annual award for the best book or article in the field of Islamic Numismatics. History and purpose The Royal Numismatic Society established the prize in 1992 following a legacy from Honorary fellow Samir Shamma. International Numismatic Congress
The International Numismatic Congress (INC) is the largest international conference for numismatists. It is organised every six years by the International Numismatic Council. Since the 7th INC in Copenhagen, the conference has also marked the launch of the ''Survey of Numismatic Literature'', in which specialist numismatists review research and publications since the previous Congress. A special medal is created for each Congress. Marea (ancient City)
Marea (Ancient Egyptian: ; Ancient Greek: , , ; Latin: ) was an ancient city in Egypt, located 45 km south-west of Alexandria, on the southern shore of Lake Maryut (ancient , ).
