Doorman
A doorman, also known as doorkeeper, is someone who is posted at, and often guards, a door, or by extension another entrance (specific similar terms exist, e.g. gatekeeper, hall porter). Karel Doorman
Karel Willem Frederik Marie Doorman (23 April 1889 – 28 February 1942) was a Royal Netherlands Navy officer who during World War II commanded remnants of the short-lived American-British-Dutch-Australian Command naval strike forces in the Battle of the Java Sea. He was killed in action when his flagship was torpedoed during the battle, having chosen to go down with the ship. Biography Early career Doorman was born 1889 in Utrecht, and raised as a Roman Catholic from a military family. In 1906, he and his brother Lou ACM Doorman were commissioned as midshipmen. In 1910, he was promoted to officer and moved to the Dutch East Indies aboard the cruiser '' Tromp''. During his first three years of duty from January 1912 to December 1913, he was placed aboard the survey vessels and and was mainly tasked with mapping the coastal waters of New Guinea. ''The Doorman'' is a 2020 American action thriller film directed by Ryuhei Kitamura. The film stars Ruby Rose, Aksel Hennie, Rupert Evans, and Jean Reno and follows a former Marine turned luxury apartment doorman who must protect her brother-in-law and his two children from a gang of ruthless criminals who are after a stash of precious artwork hidden in the walls somewhere in the building. The film was theatrically released in Russia on October 1, 2020, and released direct-to-digital in the United States on October 9, 2020. DeMarr Davis is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer and artist John Byrne (comics), John Byrne, the character First appearance, first appeared in ''West Coast Avengers (comic book), West Coast Avengers'' #46 (July 1989). Davis belongs to the subspecies of humans called Mutant (Marvel Comics), mutants, who are born with superhuman abilities. He is known under the Code name, codename Doorman. Following his death, he was resurrected by Oblivion to serve as an Angel of Death, granting him new abilities. In addition to his portal-based powers, he gained flight, teleportation, and the ability to create objects using Darkforce energy. Ostiarius
An ostiarius, a Latin word sometimes anglicized as ostiary but often literally translated as porter or doorman, originally was an enslaved person or guard posted at the entrance of a building, similarly to a gatekeeper. In the Roman Catholic Church, this "porter" became the lowest of the four minor orders prescribed by the Council of Trent. This was the first order a seminarian was admitted to after receiving the tonsure. The porter had in ancient times the duty of opening and closing the church-door and of guarding the church, especially to ensure no unbaptised persons would enter during the Eucharist. Reinaldo Arenas (July 16, 1943 – December 7, 1990) was a Cuban poet, novelist, and playwright who is known as a vocal critic of Fidel Castro, the Cuban Revolution, and the Cuban government.
