Donald James Wheal
Donald James (born Donald James Wheal; 22 August 1931 – 28 April 2008) was a British television writer, novelist and non-fiction writer. Life and career Born in World's End, Chelsea, and educated at Sloane Grammar School and Pembroke College, Cambridge (where he read history), James completed his national service in the Parachute Regiment before returning to London to work as a supply teacher. He was the author of the best-selling novels ''The Fall of the Russian Empire'' (1982), ''Monstrum'' (1997), ''The Fortune Teller'' (1999), and ''Vadim'' (2000), as well as co-author of ''The Penguin Dictionary of the Third Reich'' (1997) under the pseudonym James Taylor. He wrote under a number of pseudonyms, notably Thomas Dresden and James Barwick (originally in collaboration with fellow writer Tony Barwick, another long-term contributor to the various television productions of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson and their company, AP Films/ Century 21). Department S (TV Series)
''Department S'' is a British spy-fi adventure series, produced by ITC Entertainment. It consists of 28 episodes which originally aired in 1969 and 1970. It stars Peter Wyngarde as author Jason King (later featured in spin-off series '' Jason King''), Joel Fabiani as field investigator Stewart Sullivan, and Rosemary Nicols as computer expert Annabelle Hurst. These three are agents for a fictional special department (the "S" of the title) of Interpol. The head of Department S is Sir Curtis Seretse ( Dennis Alaba Peters). Production "When a case proves too baffling for the minds of Interpol, they turn to the talents of Department S."; from the ITC trailer for the series. ''Journey to the Far Side of the Sun'' (also known by its original title ''Doppelgänger'') is a 1969 British science fiction film directed by Robert Parrish and starring Roy Thinnes, Ian Hendry, Lynn Loring, Loni von Friedl and Patrick Wymark. It was written by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson and Donald James, and produced by the Andersons for Century 21. Set in the year 2069, the film concerns a joint European-NASA mission to investigate a newly discovered planet which lies directly opposite Earth on the far side of the Sun. ''UFO'' is a 1970 British science fiction television series about the covert efforts of an international defence organisation (under the auspices of the United Nations) to prevent an alien invasion of Earth.
