Donald Cook (Medal Of Honor)
Donald Gilbert Cook (August 9, 1934 – December 8, 1967) was a United States Marine Corps officer and a Medal of Honor recipient. Biography Donald Cook was born in Brooklyn, New York. He attended Xavier High School in New York City and St. Michael's College in Vermont. In 1956 he enlisted in the Marine Corps as a private but was quickly sent for officer training at the Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Virginia. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1957. In 1960 he attended Army Language School in Monterey, California, studying Chinese and graduated near the top of his class. Lieutenant Cook was assigned to Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii, in 1961 and was promoted to captain on March 1, 1962. He held a series of assignments in the Marine Corps and was sent to South Vietnam in late 1964, where he served as an advisor to the Vietnamese Marine Division until he was wounded and captured by the Viet Cong several weeks later. USS ''Donald Cook'' (DDG-75) is an ''Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, Arleigh Burke-class'' (Arleigh Burke-class destroyer#Characteristics, Flight II) Aegis combat system, Aegis guided missile destroyer in the United States Navy named for Medal of Honor recipient Donald Cook (Medal of Honor), Donald Cook, a colonel in the United States Marine Corps. Donald Cook (September 26, 1901 – October 1, 1961) was an American stage and film actor who had a prolific career in pre-Code Hollywood films and on Broadway. Cook is perhaps best known for his film roles in '' The Public Enemy'' (1931), '' Safe in Hell'' (1931), '' Baby Face'' (1933), and '' Viva Villa!'' (1934), as well as for his stage role as David Naughton in '' Claudia'', which ran for a total of 722 performances on Broadway between 1941 and 1943. He was the first actor to play Ellery Queen. Biography Cook was born and raised in Portland, Oregon, and originally studied farming but later worked for a lumber company. Cook attended the University of Oregon. Don Cook (organist)
R. Don Cook is the organ area coordinator and the university carillonneur at Brigham Young University (BYU). Cook has bachelor's and master's degrees in organ from BYU. He has a DMA from the University of Kansas. Prior to joining the BYU faculty he was an organist at Christ Church, Cranbrook in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and at First United Methodist Church in Lubbock, Texas. Cook developed the Organ Tutor: Organ 101 program, a multi-media program that has been used to teach organ in multiple countries. His course plans were also used as the basis for a program began in 2003 at the University of Utah. Cook has been a member of the BYU faculty since 1991. He has directed the BYU Organ Workshop since its founding in 2002. Artists who recorded Cook's material include Barbara Mandrell, John Conlee, Mark Collie, Wade Hayes and Brooks & Dunn. Cook's production work began in the early 1990s when he worked with Brooks & Dunn. Musical career Don Cook began writing songs at age twelve and recorded his first demo at age fourteen. He played at various clubs and coffeehouses in Houston, Texas during his teenage years, and moved to Nashville, Tennessee through the suggestion of a friend. Through the assistance of Don Gant, he signed with Acuff-Rose Music. In the 1980s, Cook had several cuts that were released as singles, including "Lady Lay Down" by John Conlee, which was Cook's first Number One as a songwriter.
