''Donald and Pluto'' is a 1936 animated short film produced by Walt Disney Productions and distributed by United Artists. The film stars Donald Duck, employed as a plumber, and Mickey's dog Pluto as his assistant. The film was directed by Ben Sharpsteen and featured the voice of Clarence Nash as Donald. ''Donald and Pluto'' is one of the three installments of the ''Mickey Mouse'' series in which Mickey doesn't appear as a character, the others are 1937's '' Don Donald'' and '' Modern Inventions''. The cartoon also introduced Fred Spencer's new design for Donald Duck, which included a slimmer body, shorter neck, rounder feet, and a shorter beak. Ben Sharpsteen
Benjamin Sharpsteen (November 4, 1895 – December 20, 1980) was an American film director and producer for The Walt Disney Company, Disney. He directed 31 films between 1920 and 1980. Sharpsteen created a museum documenting the history of California's first millionaire, Samuel Brannan, Sam Brannan, and the history of the Napa County, California, Upper Napa Valley as well as more on Sharpsteen's life and work at the Sharpsteen Museum located in Calistoga, California. He died in Napa County, California. ''Modern Inventions'' is a 1937 American comic science fiction animated short film produced by Walt Disney Productions and released by United Artists. It is also the final Disney short to be released by United Artists. The cartoon follows Donald Duck as he tours the fictional Museum of Modern Marvels. Jack King directed it in his first directing role at Disney, and Oliver Wallace composed the original music. The voice cast includes Clarence Nash as Donald, Billy Bletcher as the Robot Butler, Adriana Caselotti as the Robot Baby Carriage, and Don Brodie as the Robot Barber. Plot Donald visits the Museum of Modern Marvels, which showcases futuristic electronic appliances and inventions. He drops a coin on a string in the admission box and yanks it out. ''Beach Picnic'' is a Donald Duck animated short film released on June 9, 1939, featuring Donald Duck and Pluto and produced by Walt Disney Productions in Technicolor and distributed by RKO Radio Pictures. This cartoon featured Donald and Pluto at the beach. It was the first cartoon in the ''Donald Duck'' series to feature Pluto (although he had previously appeared with Donald in ''Donald and Pluto'').
