Don Weeks
Donald E. Weeks (November 23, 1938 — March 11, 2015) was an American radio personality. He was the longtime host of the ''WGY Morning News'' on news-talk radio station 810 WGY in Schenectady, New York. Prior to working for WGY, Weeks was a weather forecaster for WAST-TV (now NBC network affiliate WNYT in Albany) and a DJ for Top 40 station WTRY, now sports station WOFX. Weeks joined WGY as a morning host in 1980 and spent 30 years in that role. He won numerous accolades, including the NAB Marconi Award for Medium Market Personality of the Year in 2005. Weeks was also inducted into the New York State Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame in 2009. On June 15, 2010, Weeks announced his retirement after a half-century on the radio. WGY (AM)
WGY (810 kHz "NewsRadio WGY") is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Schenectady, New York, and serving the Capital District including the Albany-Schenectady-Troy radio market. It is owned by iHeartMedia, and it airs a News/Talk radio format. Programming is simulcast on WGY-FM 103.1 MHz. WGY is one of the first stations in the United States and the oldest to operate continuously in New York State, having launched on February 20, 1922. WGY is a Class A clear channel station powered at 50,000 watts using a non-directional antenna. It transmits from a single tower located off Mariaville Road, near the New York State Thruway, in the Town of Rotterdam. The station's daytime AM signal provides at least grade B coverage from the outer northern suburbs of New York City to the fringes of the North Country, as well as parts of Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont. Schenectady, New York
Schenectady () is a city in Schenectady County, New York, United States, of which it is the county seat. As of the 2020 census, the city's population of 67,047 made it the state's ninth-largest city by population. The city is in eastern New York, near the confluence of the Mohawk and Hudson rivers. It is in the same metropolitan area as the state capital, Albany, which is about southeast. Schenectady was founded on the south side of the Mohawk River by Dutch colonists in the 17th century, many of whom came from the Albany area. The name "Schenectady" is derived from the Mohawk word ''skahnéhtati'', meaning "beyond the pines" and used for the area around Albany, New York. WNYT (channel 13) is a television station licensed to Albany, New York, United States, serving the Capital District as an affiliate of NBC. It is owned by Hubbard Broadcasting alongside Pittsfield, Massachusetts–licensed MyNetworkTV affiliate WNYA (channel 51). Both stations share studios on North Pearl Street in Menands (with an Albany postal address), while WNYT's transmitter is located on the Helderberg Escarpment west of New Salem. History The station began broadcasting on February 17, 1954, as CBS affiliate WTRI, licensed to Troy and broadcasting on UHF channel 35. A disc jockey, more commonly abbreviated as DJ, is a person who plays recorded music for an audience. WOFX (980 AM) is a radio station licensed to Troy, New York. The station is owned by iHeartMedia and runs a sports format and is the Fox Sports Radio affiliate for the Capital District, Adirondacks, and Berkshires. Programming Much of WOFX's schedule is programming from Fox Sports Radio. Previously, WOFX aired '' Imus in the Morning'', a program which predated the sports format. Niskayuna is a town in Schenectady County, New York, United States. The population was 23,278 at the 2020 census. The town is located in the southeast part of the county, east of the city of Schenectady, and is the easternmost town in the county. The current Town Supervisor is Jaime Puccioni. History The Town of Niskayuna was created on March 7, 1809, from the town of Watervliet, with an initial population of 681. The name of town was derived from early patents to Dutch settlers: ''Nis-ti-go-wo-ne'' or ''Co-nis-tig-i-one'', both derived from the Mohawk language. The 19th-century historians Howell and Munsell mistakenly identified Conistigione as an Indian tribe, but they were a band of Mohawk people known by the term for this location.
