Don Towsley (animator)
Don Towsley (May 11, 1912 – November 25, 1986) was an animator working at Walt Disney Animation Studios, and later at MGM and Filmation. Career Starting out at Disney, Towsley worked on three shorts in the ''Silly Symphony'' series, animating the band in ''The Cookie Carnival'' (1935), a scene of dancing hens ultimately cut from '' Cock o' the Walk'' (1935), and the introduction and opening scene of ''Donald's Better Self'' (1938). In 1938, Towsley became the main animator for the Donald Duck short films, following Fred Spencer's death. Towsley contributed to the 1940 film ''Pinocchio'', as part of the team responsible for Jiminy Cricket and Monstro the Whale. He also animated the "Pastoral Symphony" segment of the 1940 film ''Fantasia''. The Terrible Dogfish ( it, Il Terribile Pescecane) is a dogfish-like sea monster, which appears in Carlo Collodi's 1883 book ''The Adventures of Pinocchio'' (''Le avventure di Pinocchio'') as one of the main antagonists and the final one. It is described as being larger than a five-story building, a kilometer long (not including its tail) and sporting three rows of teeth in a mouth that can easily accommodate a train. So fearsome is its reputation, that in Chapter XXXIV, it is revealed that the Dogfish is nicknamed "The Attila of fish and fishermen" (''L'Attila dei pesci e dei pescatori''). In the novel The Dogfish is first mentioned in Chapter XXIV, when Pinocchio, searching for his creator, Geppetto, is informed by a dolphin that he has likely been swallowed by the Dogfish which "...for some days has come to wreak extermination and desolation in our waters". ''Donald's Cousin Gus'' is a 1939 Walt Disney cartoon in which Donald Duck is visited by his gluttonous cousin, Gus Goose, who proceeds to eat Donald out of house and home. It was released on May 19, 1939. Gus Goose debuted as a recurring character in Al Taliaferro's ''Donald Duck'' newspaper comic since 9 May 1938. This cartoon was also the first-ever pre-recorded program (in this case, film) to be televised in the United States, airing as part of NBC's "first night" of sponsored programming on May 3, 1939, exactly one week after the film was released in theaters. The series is actually called ''Flash Gordon'' but the expanded title is used in official records to distinguish it from previous versions. Filmation produced the series in 1979, partly as a reaction to the mammoth success of ''Star Wars'' in 1977. The series was an homage to the original ''Flash Gordon'' comic strip and featured many of the original characters, including Flash's girlfriend Dale Arden, and the scientist Hans Zarkov. ''The New Archie and Sabrina Hour'' (advertised as ''The Archie-Sabrina Show'') is the seventh and final animated series featuring Archie Comics characters under the Filmation banner. The series premiered on NBC in September 1977, rebroadcasting segments from ''The Archie Show'', as well as brand-new segments featuring ''Sabrina the Teenage Witch''. The show's format featured three segments per episode: a 15-minute one, a 30-minute one, and another 15-minute one—with the segments separated by songs (two songs per episode) and the first segment invariably featuring and emphasizing Sabrina. Filmation added two new characters into the show: a Latino teenager named Carlos and a robot that Dilton Doiley got from a space center and rebuilt named Q.
