Don Scott (footballer, Born 1947)
Don W. Scott (born 20 December 1947) is a former Australian rules footballer who represented in the Victorian Football League (VFL) from 1967–1981. Over his 302-game VFL career, Scott built a reputation as an aggressive ruckman and a team enforcer. As captain, he led the Hawks to two premierships. Scott played 302 games in the brown and gold over a 15-year career that spanned between 1967 and 1981, winning three premierships with the club as well as the 1973 best and fairest award. The club's captain from 1976 to 1980, Scott was recognised as one of the most fearless ruckmen of his era. The Box Hill Hawks Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in the Melbourne suburb of Box Hill, currently competing in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and the VFL Women's (VFLW). 1975 VFL Season
The 1975 VFL season was the 79th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 5 April until 27 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top five clubs. The premiership was won by the North Melbourne Football Club, after it defeated by 55 points in the VFL Grand Final. Jeff Kennett
Jeffrey Gibb Kennett (born 2 March 1948) is an Australian former politician who served as the 43rd Premier of Victoria between 1992 and 1999, Leader of the Victorian Liberal Party from 1982 to 1989 and from 1991 to 1999, and the Member for Burwood from 1976 to 1999. AFL Salary Cap
The Australian Football League has implemented a salary cap on its clubs since 1987, when Brisbane and West Coast were admitted, as part of its equalization policy. The cap was set at A$1.25 million for 1987–1989 as per VFL agreement, with the salary floor set at 90% of the cap or $1.125 million; the salary floor was increased to 92.5% of the cap in 2001, and to 95% of the cap for 2013 onwards due to increased revenues. Both the salary cap and salary floor have increased support for a player in a league where he has a contract extension substantially since the competition was re-branded as the AFL in 1990. Nicky Winmar
Neil Elvis "Nicky" Winmar (born 25 September 1965) is a former Australian rules footballer best known for his career for and the in the Australian Football League (AFL), as well as in the West Australian Football League. An Indigenous Australian man, he was the first Aboriginal footballer to play 200 games in the AFL, and was named in the Indigenous Team of the Century in 2005. He was involved in several incidents of racial vilification during his career, and a photograph of Winmar responding to one such incident during the 1993 season has been described as one of the most memorable images in Australian sporting history. Sam Newman
John Noel William "Sam" Newman (born 22 December 1945) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Geelong Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A talented and athletic player who served his apprenticeship under Graham "Polly" Farmer, Newman became Geelong's main ruckman after Farmer departed at the end of 1967. He overcame a number of serious injuries during his career to become the first Geelong player to reach 300 senior VFL games. Michael Sheahan (born 3 March 1947) is an Australian journalist who specialises in Australian rules football. He was chief football writer and associate sports editor for the ''Herald Sun'' for 18 years. Although he left these positions at the end of 2011, he still writes special columns for the newspaper, including his yearly "Top 50" player list. He was also a panelist on the Fox Footy program '' On the Couch'' and former media director for the Australian Football League (AFL, formerly VFL). Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is the neoplasm, uncontrolled growth of cells in the prostate, a gland in the male reproductive system below the bladder. Abnormal growth of the prostate tissue is usually detected through Screening (medicine), screening tests, typically blood tests that check for prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels. Those with high levels of PSA in their blood are at increased risk for developing prostate cancer. Diagnosis requires a prostate biopsy, biopsy of the prostate. If cancer is present, the pathologist assigns a Gleason score; a higher score represents a more dangerous tumor. Medical imaging is performed to look for cancer that has spread outside the prostate. Melbourne Hawks
The Melbourne Hawks was a planned Australian Football League (AFL) team that would have consisted of the merger between the Melbourne Football Club and Hawthorn Football Club clubs at the end of the 1996 AFL season, 1996 season. Out of all the proposed merger combinations in the 1990s, it appeared to be the most ideal— Hawthorn had a football team which had success (eight premierships in the previous 25 years) but were in a dire financial situation, while Melbourne had sound financial base but had not won a premiership for over 30 years.
