Don Haldane
Donald Alexander Haldane (December 3, 1914 – September 21, 2008) was a Canadian film and television director, most noted as the director of the films '' Nikki: Wild Dog of the North'' and '' Drylanders''. Stoddart Publishing was a Canadian book publisher and distributor, owned by Jack Stoddart, which ceased operations in 2002. History In 1967, General Publishing purchased the Musson imprint, based in Canada, from British publisher Hodder & Stoughton. Musson provided publishing services in Canada for other publishing houses, in addition to publishing its own line of Canadian authors. In 1984, Stoddart Publishing became an imprint of General Publishing, taking over the line of Canadian authors from Musson. In 1995, Stoddart published a book by photographer Jock Carroll, '' Glenn Gould: Some Portraits of the Artist as a Young Man'', being a collection of photographs of the late Canadian pianist, accompanied by captions written by Carroll. 23rd Canadian Film Awards
The 23rd Canadian Film Awards were held on October 1, 1971 to honour achievements in Canadian film. The ceremony, which had been returned to banquet format, was hosted by actor Leslie Nielsen and broadcaster Charlotte Gobeil. For this year's competition, 149 films were entered, but Quebec independent filmmakers refused to submit their films, citing "lack of interest" and taking issue with the insufficient representation of Montreal in the awards committee. The 21st Canadian Film Awards were held on October 4, 1969 to honour achievements in Canadian film. The ceremony, attended by 1,200 people, was hosted by broadcaster Fred Davis (broadcaster), Fred Davis. As a result of 1968's selection process controversy, the judging process was revamped again. 16th Canadian Film Awards
The 16th Canadian Film Awards were held on May 8, 1964 to honour achievements in Canadian film. This year saw 148 films entered, including five features, and the fact that a French-language film won Film of the Year was a tremendous boost for Francophone film production. Canadian Film Award
The Canadian Film Awards were the leading Canadian cinema awards from 1949 until 1978. These honours were conducted annually, except in 1974 when a number of Quebec directors withdrew their participation and prompted a cancellation. In the 1970s they were also sometimes known as the Etrog Awards for sculptor Sorel Etrog, who designed the statuette. ''On the Spot'' was the first television series made specifically for TV by the National Film Board of Canada, and aired on CBC Television from 1953 to 1955.
