Don Gregorio (opera)
''Don Gregorio'' is an 1826 opera by Gaetano Donizetti from a libretto by Jacopo Ferretti and adapted from his popular 1824 opera buffa '' L'ajo nell'imbarazzo'' (''The Tutor Embarrassed''), which had enjoyed considerable success when presented at the Teatro Valle in Rome on 4 February 1824.Ashbrook and Hibberd 2001, p. 226 When Francesco Tortoli was interested in producing it in Naples, it was determined that ''L'ajo nell'imbarazzo'' was unsuitable as it stood. Donizetti then signed a contract with Tortoli for 300 ducats to adapt it into a new opera, ''Don Gregorio'', and to compose one further opera. For the adaptation, Donizetti composed some additional music, revised the recitatives into spoken dialogue, and translated the role of Don Gregorio into the Neapolitan dialect. The opera premiered at the Teatro Nuovo on 11 June 1826. Don Gregorio, Dominican Republic
Don Gregorio is a town in Nizao County, located in the southeastern corner of Dominican Republic, at . It is the second most populated town in the Nizao County of the Peravia Province, in the estuary of the Nizao River. Don Gregorio was elevated to municipal section on January 1, 1945, when Nizao was elevated from Municipal District to the category of County by the Dominican Congress. Don Gregorio is an agricultural town rich in cultivable lands and a huge producer of baseball players. Gregorio Elso Pérez Perdigón (born 16 January 1948 in Maldonado, Uruguay, Maldonado) is a Uruguayan Association football, football Manager (association football), manager and former player who played as a midfielder. Pérez is widely reputed in his country due for his respectful approach toward the game and general sportsmanship. He is known as "Don (honorific), Don Gregorio". Managerial career Gregorio Pérez acted as an assistant manager to Oscar Tabarez during the Uruguayan national football team's 1990 Football World Cup campaign.
