On July13, 2024, Evan Vucci, an American Photojournalism, photojournalist, captured a series of photographs of Donald Trump—then a former president of the United States and the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party (United States), Republican Party in the 2024 United States presidential election, 2024 presidential election—Raised fist, raising his right fist with blood on his face, moments after Trump was shot in the ear during Attempted assassination of Donald Trump in Pennsylvania, an assassination attempt at a political rally near Butler, Pennsylvania. In some photos, Trump's mouth is open as he chants "Fight!", while it is closed in others. On July 13, 2024, Donald Trump, then a former president of the United States and presumptive nominee of the Republican Party (United States), Republican Party in the 2024 United States presidential election, 2024 presidential election, survived an List of United States presidential assassination attempts and plots, assassination attempt while speaking at an open-air campaign rally near Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump was shot and wounded in his upper right ear by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who fired eight rounds from an AR-15–style rifle from the roof of a nearby building. Crooks also killed one audience member, Corey Comperatore, and critically injured two others. After four seconds, a member of the Butler County Emergency Service Unit shot at Crooks and hit his rifle, preventing him from firing more shots.
