Don Bluth Entertainment
Don Bluth Entertainment (formerly Sullivan Bluth Studios) was an Irish-American animation studio established in 1979 by animator Don Bluth. Bluth and several colleagues, all of whom were former Disney animators, left Disney on September 13, 1979, to form Don Bluth Productions, later known as the Bluth Group. The studio produced the short film ''Banjo the Woodpile Cat'', the feature film ''The Secret of NIMH'', a brief animation sequence in the musical '' Xanadu'', and the video games ''Dragon's Lair'' and ''Space Ace''. Bluth then co-founded Sullivan Bluth Studios with American businessman Gary Goldman, John Pomeroy and Morris Sullivan in 1985. The studio had initially operated from an animation facility in Van Nuys, California, and negotiated with Steven Spielberg and Amblin Entertainment to produce the animated feature ''An American Tail''. Fox Animation Studios
Fox Animation Studios was an American animation studio owned by 20th Century Fox and located in Phoenix, Arizona. It was a subsidiary of 20th Century Fox Animation and was established by animators Don Bluth and Gary Goldman. It operated for six years, until the studio was shut down on June 26, 2000, ten days after the release of its final film, ''Titan A.E.''. Most of the Fox Animation Studios library was later acquired by The Walt Disney Company, Disney (via 20th Century Studios) on March 20, 2019. Space Ace
''Space Ace'' is a LaserDisc video game produced by Bluth Group, Cinematronics and Advanced Microcomputer Systems (later renamed RDI Video Systems). It was unveiled in October 1983, just four months after the ''Dragon's Lair'' game, followed by a limited release in December 1983 and then a wide release in Spring 1984. Like its predecessor, it featured film-quality animation played back from a LaserDisc. The gameplay is similar to ''Dragon's Lair'', requiring the player to move the joystick or press the fire button at key moments in the animated sequences to govern the hero's actions. There is also the occasional option to either temporarily have the character transform into his adult form or remain as a boy with different styles of challenge. The arcade game was a commercial success in North America, but was unable to achieve the same level of success as ''Dragon's Lair''. It was later ported to a number of home systems. Dragon's Lair (1983 Video Game)
''Dragon's Lair'' is an interactive film Interactive film#LaserDisc games, LaserDisc video game developed by RDI Video Systems, Advanced Microcomputer Systems and published by Cinematronics in 1983, as the first game in the ''Dragon's Lair'' series. In the game, the protagonist Dirk the Daring is a knight attempting to rescue Princess Daphne (character), Princess Daphne from the evil dragon Singe who has locked the princess in the foul wizard Mordroc's castle. It featured animation by ex-The Walt Disney Company, Disney animator Don Bluth. Most other games of the era represented the character as a Sprite (computer graphics), sprite, which consisted of a series of pixels displayed in succession.
