Domus (magazine)
''Domus'' is an architecture and design magazine founded in 1928 by architect Gio Ponti and Barnabites, Barnabite father Giovanni Semeria. Published by Editoriale Domus, the magazine is issued 11 times a year on a monthly basis and has its headquarters in Rozzano, Milan. History Foundation – WWII The first issue of ''Domus'', subtitled "Architecture and decor of the modern home in the city and in the country," was published on 15 January 1928. Its mission was to renew architecture, interiors and Italian decorative arts without overlooking topics of interest to women, like the art of homemaking, gardening and cooking. Gio Ponti was the founder of the magazine and delineated the magazine's goals in his editorials, insisting on the importance of aesthetics and style in the field of industrial production. Rozzano
Rozzano ( ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Milan, in the Italian region Lombardy, located about south of Milan. Rozzano borders the following municipalities: Milan, Assago, Zibido San Giacomo, Opera, Pieve Emanuele, Basiglio. Rozzano received the honorary title of city with a presidential decree on July 21, 2003. History The first government to officialise the birth of the municipality of Rozzano was that of Napoleon who in 1809 decreed the annexation of Torriggio and in 1811 those of Cassino Scanasio, Pontesesto and Quinto de' Stampi. The Austrians first annulled everything in 1816, but then reconsidered regarding Torriggio and Cassino Scanasio in 1841, while it was Vittorio Emanuele II in 1870 who sanctioned the final union with Pontesesto, which also brought Quinto as a dowry. Alessandro Mendini
Alessandro Mendini (16 August 1931 – 18 February 2019) was an Italians, Italian designer and architect. He played an important part in the development of Italian, Postmodern architecture, Postmodern, and Radical period, Radical design. He also worked, aside from his artistic career, for ''Casabella'', ''Modo'' and ''Domus (magazine), Domus'' magazines. The character of his design is marked by what was his strong interest in mixing different cultures and different forms of expression; he created graphics, furniture, interiors, paintings and architecture and also wrote several articles and books. He was renowned as an enthusiastic member of jury in architectural competitions for young designers. He taught at the University of Milan. Mendini was born in Milan. Remment Lucas Koolhaas (; born 17 November 1944) is a Dutch architect, architectural theory, architectural theorist, urbanist and Professor in Practice of Architecture and Urban Design at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, Graduate School of Design at Harvard University. Stefano Boeri
Stefano Boeri (born 25 November 1956) is an Italian architect and urban planner, and a founding partner of Stefano Boeri Architetti. Among his most known projects are the Vertical Forest in Milan, the Villa Méditerranée in Marseille, and the House of the Sea of La Maddalena. He is the professor of urban planning at the Polytechnic University of Milan. Alan Fletcher (graphic Designer)
Alan Gerard Fletcher (27 September 1931 – 21 September 2006) was a British graphic designer. In his obituary, he was described by ''The Daily Telegraph'' as "the most highly regarded graphic designer of his generation, and probably one of the most prolific". Born in Nairobi, Kenya, Fletcher moved to England at age five, and studied at four art schools: Hammersmith School of Art, Central School of Art, Royal College of Art (1953–1956) and lastly Yale School of Art and Architecture at Yale University in 1956. Italo Lupi
Italo Lupi (28 March 1934 – 27 June 2023) was an Italian graphic designer and writer. Life and career Born in Cagliari, in 1959 Lupi graduated in architecture from the Polytechnic University of Milan, and after briefly serving as an assistant professor to Pier Giacomo Castiglioni at his alma mater he started his career as a graphic designer at the La Rinascente Development Office, under the direction of Mario Bellini. After working in the studio of Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, he opened his own studio, and started collaborating as an art director with major companies and institutions, including IBM and the Triennale di Milano.
