Dominique Atkins
Dominique Atkins (born 29 April 1970) is a British jazz and dance singer from London. She has been a member of such groups as Grace and The Space Brothers, among others. Her hit singles include "Not Over Yet", "Skin On Skin", "If I Could Fly", "Down To Earth", and "I Want To Live". She co-wrote and sang on Tilt's 1999 hit single "Invisible". Atkins also performed concerts in jazz clubs, as well as in China. Early life She was born in the Middle East, but raised in South London. Her father's love for classical jazz was a powerful influence in her music. Atkins' father is a jazz trumpet player, and she started to perform as a balladeer with her father in clubs when she was 13. Paul Oakenfold and Steve Osborne were impressed by her singing, and she joined them in the dance group Grace in 1995. Stephen John "Steve" Osborne (born 1963) is a British record producer, living in Bath, England. He has worked with a wide variety of musicians, including Suede, the B-52s, A-ha, New Order, Elbow, U2, Happy Mondays, Placebo, Gregory Porter, Doves, KT Tunstall, Vanessa Carlton, and Simple Minds. Career During the 1990s, Osborne was half of the Perfecto Records team, a production and remix collaboration with Paul Oakenfold; they worked with Happy Mondays, U2, and other artists. He and Oakenfold were part of the 1990s dance music act Grace which existed from 1994 to 1997. Osborne worked with Cat's Eyes on their critically acclaimed album, released in April 2011. Jonathan Cooper (born 1970), known professionally as Jon Pleased Wimmin, and sometimes JPW, is a London-based disc jockey and house music record producer. Often performing in full drag, Cooper had chart success with club hit "Passion". Biography Born in Brazzaville in 1970, Cooper grew up in London and went on to study Fashion Design. His career began performing in transvestite cabaret act "The Pleased Wimmin", which was spotted by DJ Danny Rampling who booked them to perform at club night ''Glam''. "Not Over Yet" is a song by British dance act Grace. Originally released in 1993 under the band name State of Grace, it was re-released in March 1995 as the first single from their only album, '' If I Could Fly'' (1996). It received critical acclaim from music critics, peaking at number six on the UK Singles Chart and number-one on the US ''Billboard'' Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. Lead vocals and backing vocals were performed by singer Patti Low. In 1995, the lead vocals were replaced by new frontwoman and singer, Dominique Atkins, for the album release, although Low's backing vocals remained in place.
