Dominic Van Den Boogerd
Dominic van den Boogerd (*1959) is a Dutch art critic and art historian situated in Amsterdam. Van den Boogerd has been active as an art critic since 1983. From 1993 to 1995, he was chief editor of ''Metropolis M''. He also published articles in trendy art magazines such as the Dutch ''HP/De Tijd'', the international art magazine ''Parkett'', the London ''frieze'' magazine, the Belgian art magazine ''De Witte Raaf'', the U.S. non-profit art magazine ''Art Papers'', and the ''Stedelijk Museum Bulletin''. Furthermore, Van den Boogerd is co-author of a book on the South African born Dutch artist Marlene Dumas (1999). In the Survey chapter, for instance, he examines Dumas's work in relation to a range of conceptual legacies in depictions of the human figure. Van den Boogerd was also guest lecturer at the Fachhochschule für Kunst und Gestaltung, Bern, and at the Institute of Technology/Fine Arts, Dublin. Art history is the study of aesthetic objects and visual expression in historical and stylistic context. ''HP/De Tijd'' is a Dutch language monthly opinion magazine published by the Audax Groep. Its editorial offices are in Amsterdam, Netherlands. ''frieze'' is a contemporary art magazine, published eight times a year from London. History ''frieze'' was founded in 1991 by Frieze Art Fair founders Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover with artist Tom Gidley. A Damien Hirst butterfly painting was featured in the first ''frieze'' issue. When ''frieze'' began both Sharp and Slotover served as editors, but ceased direct involvement in editorial decisions in 2001. Marlene Dumas
Marlene Dumas (born 3 August 1953) is a South African artist and painter currently based in the Netherlands. Life and work Dumas was born in 1953 in Cape Town, South Africa and grew up in Kuils River in the Western Cape, where her father had a vineyard. Dumas witnessed the system of Apartheid during her childhood. Dumas began painting in 1973 and showed her political concerns and reflections on her identity as a white woman of Afrikaans descent in South Africa. She studied art at the University of Cape Town from 1972 to 1975, and then at Ateliers '63 in Haarlem, which is now located in Amsterdam. She studied psychology at the University of Amsterdam in 1979 and 1980. She currently lives and works in the Netherlands and is one of the country's most prolific artists. De Ateliers
De Ateliers (formerly Ateliers '63) is an independent art school in located in Amsterdam. It was founded in Haarlem in 1963, among others by Ger Lataster, Mari Andriessen, Nic Jonk, Theo Mulder and Wessel Couzijn. This "group of established artists... agreed that the formative process of fine artists should be more individually directed than the learning of a trade or the studying of a science." De Ateliers offers a postgraduate program, where young artists can work in their own workshops with accompanied by renowned artists and critics. Students are called 'participants'. They are regularly visited in their studios by the tutors and guests from The Netherlands and abroad for individual feedbacks.
