Jimmy (raven)
Jimmy (often erroneously credited as Jimmy the Crow) was a raven actor who is reported to have appeared in more than 1,000 films from the 1930s to the 1950s. Profile He first appeared in '' You Can't Take It with You'' in 1938. Director Frank Capra would then cast the bird in every subsequent movie he made. Among his roles were Uncle Billy's pet, seen in the Building & Loan in '' It's a Wonderful Life'' (1946), and the crow that landed on the Scarecrow in '' The Wizard of Oz'' (1939). Jimmy belonged to Hollywood animal trainer Curly Twiford, who found the bird in a nest in the Mojave Desert in 1934. Twiford trained Jimmy to do an assortment of tricks, such as typing and opening letters. He could even ride a tiny motorcycle. These talents would make him appealing to use in films. Jimmy could understand several hundred words, though only around 50 were what Twiford called "useful". It took Jimmy a week to learn a new useful word, two weeks if it had two syllables. Scarlet Macaw
The scarlet macaw (''Ara macao'') also called the red-and-yellow macaw, red-and-blue macaw or red-breasted macaw, is a large yellow, red and blue Neotropical parrot native to humid evergreen forests of the Americas. Its range extends from southeastern Mexico to Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, Venezuela, Honduras, and Brazil in lowlands of (at least formerly) up to , the Caribbean island of Trinidad, as well as the Pacific island of Coiba. Formerly, the northern extent of its range included southern Tamaulipas. Douglas (parrot)
Douglas ( ca 1967 – 23 February 2019) was a male scarlet macaw that played the parrot Rosalinda in the 1970 Pippi Longstocking film ''Pippi in the South Seas''. Douglas was imported from Brazil to Sweden in 1967, three years before starring in the movie. Douglas was capable of singing and of speaking a few dozen words in Swedish. Later life In 2002, 32 years after ''Pippi in the South Seas'', Douglas garnered much attention in the Swedish press when authorities were considering putting him to death because his owner did not have the proper paperwork. A petition pleading for Douglas's life received over 50,000 signatures, including that of actress Inger Nilsson, who played Pippi in the 1970 movie. Ultimately, Douglas was spared after his first owner in Sweden produced the correct paperwork, showing that Douglas had been legally imported from Brazil in 1967.Sigrid HarmsPapagei aus „Pippi Langstrumpf“: Douglas muss sterben Spiegel Online, 7 April 2016 (German) [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Hercules (bear)
Hercules (1975 – 4 February 2000) was a trained grizzly bear from Scotland who appeared in a number of cameo roles for various television productions, reaching the height of his popularity in the 1980s. Origins Hercules was born in captivity at the Highland Wildlife Park in Kingussie. The park was unable to accommodate more bears, and if the cub could not be rehomed, it would be put down. Scottish wrestler Andy Robin had appeared on the same card as wrestling bear ( Terrible Ted) in Maple Leaf Gardens in 1965. Learning that the cub was available, Robin and his wife Maggie bought the bear in 1976 for £50, with the idea of training it. In September, with the cub old enough to leave his mother, the couple brought him to their home on Sheriffmuir near Dunblane. Hercules grew quickly and in one year grew to a weight of 30 stone (190 kg; 420 lbs). Early popularity Hercules first appeared with Robin in his act on the UK wrestling circuit in the late 1970s and earl ...
