Gary Doer
Gary Albert Doer (born 31 March 1948) is a former Canadians, Canadian politician and diplomat from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He served as Canada's List of Canadian ambassadors to the United States, ambassador to the United States from 19 October 2009, to 3 March 2016. Doer previously served as the 20th premier of Manitoba from 1999 to 2009, leading a New Democratic Party of Manitoba, New Democratic Party government. Since the end of his term as envoy to Washington, Doer has taken up a position as senior business advisor with the global law firm Dentons and was retained by the government of Alberta to lobby the First presidency of Donald Trump, Trump administration on the softwood lumber dispute. DOER Marine (Deep Ocean Exploration and Research) is a marine technology company established in 1992 by oceanographer Sylvia Earle, based in Alameda, California. History Earle and submersible designer Graham Hawkes founded Deep Ocean Engineering (DOE) in 1982; DOE's products included ''Phantom'', an uncrewed submersible, ''Deep Rover'', a one-person submersible which set a record for deepest solo dive at , and ''Deep Flight'', designed to descend faster than previous deep-diving submersibles. Later, she left DOE to become the chief scientist at the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in 1991.
