Dodd Island
Dodd Island is a small island in the southeast part of the Publications Ice Shelf about south of the Sostrene Islands. First mapped by the Lars Christensen Expedition (1936–37) from air photos, it was remapped by the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions, and was named by the Antarctic Names Committee of Australia for D.M. Publications Ice Shelf
Publications Ice Shelf is an Antarctic ice shelf about 35 nautical miles (60 km) long on the south shore of Prydz Bay, between Mount Caroline Mikkelsen and Stornes Peninsula. Several glaciers, listed from southwest to northeast, nourish the ice shelf: Polar Times Glacier, Il Polo Glacier, Polarforschung Glacier, Polar Record Glacier and Polararboken Glacier. The feature was first mapped from air photos by the Lars Christensen Expedition, 1936–37. The name "Publication Glacier Tongues" was applied by John H. Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions
The Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE ) is the historical name for the Australian Antarctic Program (AAp) administered for Australia by the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD). History Australia has had a long involvement in south polar regions since as early as Douglas Mawson's Australasian Antarctic Expedition in 1911. Further Australian exploration of the Antarctic continent was conducted during the British Australian and New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition (BANZARE), which was conducted over the years 1929–1931. Antarctic Names Committee Of Australia
The Australian Antarctic Names and Medals Committee (AANMC) was established to advise the Government on names for features in the Australian Antarctic Territory and the subantarctic territory of Heard Island and the McDonald Islands. The committee also issues nominations Governor General for the award of the Australian Antarctic Medal. Committee members were appointed by the Minister or Parliamentary Secretary responsible for Antarctic matters. The committee was founded in 1952 as the Antarctic Names Committee of Australia, and changed to the current name in 1982 to reflect the multiple functions that the committee is responsible for. Davis Station
The Davis Station, commonly called Davis, is one of three permanent bases and research outposts in Antarctica managed by the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD). Davis is situated on the coast of Cooperation Sea in Princess Elizabeth Land, Ingrid Christensen Coast in the Australian Antarctic Territory, a territory claimed by Australia. Davis lies in the Antarctic oasis, a remarkable ice free area known as the Vestfold Hills. Davis was named in honour of Captain John King Davis.
