Hazel Dockrell
Hazel Marguerite Dockrell (born 1952) is an Irish-born microbiologist and immunologist whose research has focused on immunity to the human mycobacterial diseases, leprosy and tuberculosis. She has spent most of her career at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where as of 2020 she is a professor of immunology. She was the first female president of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. Jimmy Whitworth of the Wellcome Trust describes her as "a marvellous ambassador for global health and research." Early life and education Dockrell was born in Ireland in 1952 and brought up in Dublin. Her father held medical and dentistry qualifications. She was educated at Alexandra School and College, Dublin, and Trinity College Dublin, where she studied natural sciences, graduating in microbiology. Henry Morgan Dockrell
Henry Morgan Dockrell (17 April 1880 – 26 October 1955) was an Irish Cumann na nGaedheal and Fine Gael politician who was elected to both Dáil Éireann and Seanad Éireann. Early life Dockrell was born on 17 April 1880 at the family home, 10 Waltham Terrace, Blackrock, Dublin. He was educated privately, and for a time at Trinity College Dublin (from 1898). He joined the family firm of Thomas Dockrell, Sons and Co. Ltd in 1900, becoming managing director and chairman on his father's death in 1929. Family life Dockrell married Alice Evelyn Hayes in June 1906, and they had four sons and one daughter. Two of his sons, Percy Dockrell and Maurice E. Dockrell were also Fine Gael TDs and councillors. Maurice Dockrell (Unionist Politician)
Sir Maurice Edward Dockrell (21 December 1850 – 5 August 1929) was an Irish businessman and politician from Dublin. Early life Maurice was the son of Thomas Dockrell and Anne Morgan Brooks, born on 21 December 1850 in Monkstown, County Dublin. He was the fifth of ten children. Three of his siblings died in childhood and are buried with his parents in Mount Jerome Cemetery. His father Thomas, was a carpenter and timber merchant at Bishop Street in Dublin. Dockrell was educated at Portora Royal School, Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, where he was a notable swimmer, and at Trinity College Dublin, before entering his father's firm around 1865. Politics Dockrelle contested the Dublin St Patrick's constituency at the 1885 United Kingdom general election but was decisively defeated by William Martin Murphy. Percy Dockrell
Henry Percy Dockrell (27 December 1914 – 22 November 1979) was an Irish Fine Gael politician who served for twenty years as a Teachta Dála (TD). Dockrell first stood as a Fine Gael candidate for the Dún Laoghaire and Rathdown constituency at the 1948 general election. He was unsuccessful, but was elected at the 1951 general election, and was re-elected at the 1954 general election. He was defeated at the 1957 general election, but regained his seat at the 1961 general election and was re-elected a further three times for the same constituency. The constituency was divided for the 1977 general election. He stood as a candidate for Dún Laoghaire but was not elected. His father Henry Morgan Dockrell and his brother Maurice E.
