Doce
Doce was a Portuguese female band from the 1980s. It was one of the first girl bands in Europe. The girls took part in the Portuguese national final in order to represent the country in the Eurovision Song Contest 1980 with the song "Doce" ("Sweet"), but came second, and in 1981 with the song "Ali-Bábá, um homem das Arábias" ("Ali Baba, a man of the Arabias"), reaching 4th place in the national final. One year later, they won with " Bem bom" ("Very good") and went on the Eurovision Song Contest 1982 to reach the 13th position. There is also an English version of this song, called "Bim Bom", as well as a Spanish version, called "Bingo". Bem Bom
Portugal was represented by Doce, with the song "Bem bom", at the 1982 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Harrogate on 24 April. Doce was the winner of the Portuguese national final for the contest, held on 6 March. The song was chosen through a national final organised by broadcaster RTP. Before Eurovision Festival da Canção 1982 The final was held at the Teatro Maria Matos in Lisbon, hosted by Alice Cruz & Fialho Gouveia. The winning song was chosen by the votes of 22 regional juries. Doce previously came 2nd in the 1980 Portuguese Final and in the 1981 Portuguese Final 4th. Two members of the group (Teresa Miguel & Fatima Padinha) were in the group Gemini that represented Portugal in 1978 as was in Paris in France. Eurovision Song Contest 1982
The Eurovision Song Contest 1982 was the 27th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Harrogate, United Kingdom, following the country's victory at the with the song " Making Your Mind Up" by Bucks Fizz. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the contest was held at the Harrogate International Centre on 24 April 1982 and was hosted by English TV presenter and newsreader Jan Leeming. Eighteen countries took part in the contest with deciding not to enter this year. Due the downsizing of their national broadcasters, lost the rights to participating at the contest and so was also forced to withdraw. The winner was with the song " Ein bißchen Frieden" by Nicole. Pedro Passos Coelho
Pedro Manuel Mamede Passos Coelho (; born 24 July 1964) is a Portuguese politician and university guest lecturer who was the 118th prime minister of Portugal, in office from 2011 to 2015. He was the leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) between 2010 and 2018. Passos Coelho started very early in politics and was the national leader of the youth branch of PSD. Gemini (Portuguese Band)
Gemini was a Portuguese band from the 1970s. The members were Fatima Padinha, Teresa Miguel, Tozé Brito and Mike Sergeant. In 1977 they participated in the Portuguese national final in order to represent the country in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song " Portugal no coração". The song won. However, every song was sung by two performers, and the audience preferred Os Amigos over Gemini. Toze Brito and Mike Sergeant had previously been in the grupo Quarteto IIII in the Portuguese National Finals. They won the national final in 1978 with the song " Dai li dou". However, they only reached the 17th position. Teresa and Fatima would represent Portugal once more in 1982 in the band Doce. Armando Gama
Armando António Capelo Diniz da Gama (1 April 1954 – 17 January 2022) was a Portuguese singer-songwriter and baritone opera singer, whose physical trademark for decades was his shoulder-length jet black hair. Life and career Gama grew up in Portuguese Angola, an overseas territory of Portugal by then, and lived there until the age of 17. Upon moving to mainland Portugal in 1971, he scored the first of many No. 1 hits on the Portuguese music charts. He was well-versed in performing piano and solfège, having studied them at the music conservatory in Luanda until he was a teenager. In his decades-long music career, he sold over five million records in Portugal alone. Carlos Paião
Carlos Manuel de Marques Paião (1 November 1957 - 26 August 1988) was a singer and songwriter from Portugal. He represented Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest 1981 with the song "Playback". Carlos Paião was also a doctor, having graduated in medicine in 1983, but his great passion was music. Some of his songs became national hits. In August 1988, Carlos Paião died in a car accident on N1 Road (old Lisbon-Porto road) in Ponte Amieira, near Rio Maior, Santarém district, while returning from a concert.
