Dobranotch () is a folk music ensemble based in Germany, originally from Saint Petersburg, Russia. Founded in Nantes, France in 1997, the group plays Klezmer, Russian folk music, Balkan music, Moldovan music, and a mix of other genres. History Dobranotch was founded in Nantes, France in 1997 by three folk musicians from Saint Petersburg: Mitia Khramtsov, Oleg Drobinsky, and Stas Zubtsov. These musicians had been living in France at that time, busking and playing Jewish and Celtic music. The group's name, which means "good night" in Russian, is also a reference to a tune genre in Klezmer music which marked the end of the day's events in a traditional Eastern European Jewish wedding. Because of the eclectic personal and musical backgrounds of the group's members, their repertoire came to include a wide variety of genres including not only Klezmer and Balkan music, but Russian-language Jewish songs from Odesa, Middle Eastern music, and others. Klezmer
Klezmer ( or ) is an instrumental musical tradition of the Ashkenazi Jews of Central and Eastern Europe. The essential elements of the tradition include dance tunes, ritual melodies, and virtuosic improvisations played for listening; these would have been played at weddings and other social functions. The musical genre incorporated elements of many other musical genres including Ottoman Empire, Ottoman (especially Greek music, Greek and Romanian music, Romanian) music, Baroque music, German and Slavic people, Slavic folk dances, and religious Jewish music. As the music arrived in the United States, it lost some of its traditional ritual elements and adopted elements of American big band and popular music. Fusion Festival
The Fusion Festival is a music festival, music and arts festival with a counterculture, countercultural character. It takes place at a former military airport called Müritz Airpark in Lärz, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, in northeastern Germany. The festival name is often depicted in Cyrillic script, Cyrillic letters as Фузион, but pronounced like the English word wikt:fusion, fusion []. The annual festival was started by the ''Kulturkosmos'' organisation in 1997 and is described by the organizers as a place to practice "Holiday Communism" (Ferienkommunismus). It lasts four to six days, usually at the end of June. In 2016, the Fusion Festival event took place from 29 June to 3 July and which has attracted some 70,000 attendees for each year's festival, since the 2013 event, which the comparable American Burning Man event only matched in 2015. Sziget Festival
Sziget Festival (, ) is one of the largest music and cultural festivals in Europe. It is held every August in northern Budapest, Hungary, on Óbudai-sziget ("Old Buda Island"), a leafy 108-hectare (266-acre) island on the Danube. More than 1,000 performances take place each year. The week-long festival has grown from a relatively low-profile student event in 1993 to become one of the prominent European rock festivals, with about half of all visitors coming from outside Hungary, especially from Western Europe. Rudolstadt-Festival
The Rudolstadt-Festival (till 2015 TFF ("Tanz- und Folkfest") Rudolstadt) is a German folk, roots and world music festival. It takes place annually on the first full July weekend in Rudolstadt/Thuringia and lasts from Thursday evening to Sunday night. Until 2010 it was preceded by a special concert on Thursday evening at the ''Heidecksburg''-castle and started officially on Friday evening at the market place of Rudolstadt. The Festival is spread across multiple locations of the town of Rudolstadt, including the Heidecksburg-castle, the city center and market place, and the city park "Heinepark", all of which host multiple stages. KlezKanada
KlezKanada () is a Canadian organization for the promotion of klezmer music and Yiddish culture. Its principal program is a week-long Jewish music festival founded in 1996 that takes place annually in August at Camp B'nai B'rith in Lantier, Quebec (north of Montreal). The organization also hosts workshops, concerts, and other educational programs in Montreal throughout the year. History KlezKanada was founded by a group of local cultural activists led by Hy and Sandy Goldman in 1996. In its first year its festival had roughly 300 participants. It was inspired by KlezKamp, a similar festival in New York State which had been founded a few years earlier.
