Dmytro Marchenko
Dmytro Oleksandrovych Marchenko (; born 1978) is a retired Ukrainian Major General in the Armed Forces of Ukraine who served in the Russo-Ukrainian War, coming to prominence after the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Marchenko defended eastern Ukraine in the early Russo-Ukrainian War. In 2019, he was the subject of a corruption probe by Ukraine's State Bureau of Investigation (Ukraine), State Investigation Bureau. In the first days of the 2022 Russian invasion, his troops stopped Russia from taking the city of Mykolaiv during the battle of Mykolaiv, making him a national hero and earning him the Order for Courage. The Order for Courage () is a Ukrainian award established by Ukrainian president Leonid Kuchma on August 21, 1996. Design by Ukrainian artist Mykola Lebid. In early June 2023, during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Ukraine launched a Counter-offensive, counteroffensive against Russian forces Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine, occupying its territory with a goal of breaching the front lines. On 11 November 2022, the Armed Forces of Ukraine liberated and recaptured the city of Kherson and other areas of the Kherson Oblast and parts of the Mykolaiv Oblast on the Right-bank Ukraine, right bank of the Dnieper, Dnipro River from Russia, Russian control. 2022 Kherson Counteroffensive
A military counteroffensive was launched by Ukraine on 29 August 2022 to expel Russian forces occupying the southern regions of Kherson and Mykolaiv oblasts.
