Dj Fantan (born Arnold Kamudyariwa) is a Zimbabwean record producer, record executive, DJ and Zimdancehall chanter. Early life and education Dj Fantan was born in Mbare, Harare where he grew up. He attended his early education at Gwinyai Primary School then did his secondary education at George Stark high School where he met his business partner Levels Chillspot Levels Chillspot is a Zimbabwean music producer, artist and Zimdancehall chanter. Mbare
Mbare is a suburb in the south of Harare, Zimbabwe. Founded in 1907 as a township, it includes an informal settlement. Mbare Musika is the largest farm produce market in Zimbabwe. History Mbare was the first township, now known as a high density area, established in 1907. It was originally called Harari and much of it was constructed after 1950. Before the 1980s the government built the Matapi flats. A total of fourteen blocks of apartments were built to house bachelors who came to Harare (then Salisbury) to find employment. Since the 1980s the apartments have become multifamily, with the rooms divided by curtains or boxes. The population of the flats has grown from 3,000 to an estimated 28,000 to 30,000. For Independence Day in 1980 Bob Marley was personally invited by Edgar Tekere, and played a concert in Rufaro Stadium. Zimdancehall
Zimdancehall is a subgenre of reggae/dancehall music from Zimbabwe. The traditional way of message delivery is through chanting. Zimdancehall became more popular after the fall of the Urban Grooves genre. Popular pioneers of Zimdancehall include Winky D, Sniper Storm, Daddie Distress, Ras Tavonga (Jah Bless), Freeman HKD, Lewaz Skattah to mention a few. History Zimdancehall started in the late 1980s with the rising up of local Sound system (DJ), sound systems. The popularity of these recordings led to more studio recordings. Reggae
Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its diaspora. A 1968 single by Toots and the Maytals, "Do the Reggay" was the first popular song to use the word "reggae", effectively naming the genre and introducing it to a global audience. Levels Chillspot
Levels Chillspot is a Zimbabwean music producer, artist and Zimdancehall chanter. He is co-founder of Chillspot Recordz. Early life Born Rodger Tafadzwa Kadzimwe, Levels was born in Murehwa in September 1989. He grew up in Chitungwiza where he had his early education then later moved to Mbare suburb in Harare. Background Levels Chillspot grew into prominence when he co-founded one of the most successful Zimdancehall record labels in Zimbabwe, Chillspot Recordz in 2013 which popularised Zimdancehall genre. Through the Chillspot Recordz, Levels's name has become popular in Zimbabwe along with his partner Dj Fantan through continuous credit chanting of their names in hit songs that dominated radio airplay, public events and clubs.
