Dixie Beehives (2005–2011)
The Dixie Beehives were a Canadian Junior "A" ice hockey team from Etobicoke, Ontario. They were a part of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. The team originated in Oswego, New York as the Oswego Admirals. History Oswego Admirals 2005–2007 The Dixie Beehives began as the Oswego Admirals, a Junior A team in the east Division of the OPJHL in 2005 out of Oswego, New York and played out of Romney Field House Ice Rink. In 2006 local business man and hockey fan Joe Moore approached the OPJHL about acquiring a team. The Admirals were for sale and arrangement were made to purchase the team and bring it to Toronto suburb of Weston, Ontario where ice time was procured at Weston Arena. The mascot was named "Blade" by two local phenoms Zachary Clark and Dylan "Pickles" Lavner. The Admirals were owned by the same man who owned the Syracuse Jr. Crunch, but are not the same franchise as the Crunch as they currently play in the United States. 2006–07 OPJHL Season
The 2006–07 OPJHL season is the 14th season of the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League (OPJHL). The thirty-six teams of the North, South, East, and West divisions will compete in a 49-game schedule. Come February, the top eight teams of each division competed for the Frank L. Buckland Trophy, the OJHL championship. The winner of the Buckland Cup, the Aurora Tigers, competed in the Central Canadian Junior "A" championship, the Dudley Hewitt Cup, and won. Once successful against the winners of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League and Superior International Junior Hockey League, the champion Tigers then moved on to play in the Canadian Junior A Hockey League championship, the 2007 Royal Bank Cup where they became national champions. Markham Waxers
The Markham Waxers were an Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) Junior "A" ice hockey team based in Markham, Ontario, Canada. The Waxers name is still used by the Markham Waxers minor hockey club with the Eastern AAA Hockey League, a sub league of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association. History Originally known as the Markham Jets, the Waxers organization changed names in 1961, named after The International Group, a privately owned wax and oil refinery that originated in Agincourt, ON. The team won the 1941 Ontario Junior "C" Championship and won the Ontario Junior "B" Sutherland Cup Championship in 1969 and 1972. At one point, the Waxers were the farm team of the National Hockey League's Toronto Maple Leafs and boasts over 100 NHL and World Hockey Association graduates. Vaughan Vipers
The Vaughan Vipers were a Junior "A" ice hockey team from Vaughan, Ontario, Canada. They were a part of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. History In 1991, the expansion Royal York Rangers joined the Central Jr. B league, which became the Ontario Provincial league. In 1996, the team moved to become the Vaughan Vipers. In the first season in 1996–97, the Vipers failed to make the playoffs and were the fourth-worst team. After managing only 7 wins out of a 51-game schedule, the Vipers finished with only 18 points, and the Vipers finished out of playoff contention for the third-consecutive year. The 1999–00 season would bring changes, and the Vipers produced talent with some local players, who were discarded from major junior hockey, especially the Ontario Hockey League. February 2007 North America Winter Storm
The February 2007 North American blizzard was a massive winter storm that affected most of the eastern half of North America, starting on February 12, 2007, and peaking on Valentine's Day, February 14. The storm produced heavy snowfalls across the midwestern United States from Nebraska to Ohio and produced similar conditions across parts of the northeastern United States, and into Canada in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick. Significant sleet and freezing rain fell across the southern Ohio Valley and affected portions of the east coast of the United States, including the cities of Boston, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., New York City and Philadelphia. The southern portion of the storm produced severe thunderstorms with numerous tornadoes reported.
