''Dit was het nieuws'' (; Dutch for "This was the news") is a Dutch television panel show, produced by AVROTROS and broadcast on NPO 1, wherein two teams give a satirical account of the previous week's news. The program has the form of a game show in which two teams, each with a team leader and weekly guest, compete against each other. The scoring is not serious; after the first round, for instance, the score is always 4-4. History ''Dit was het nieuws'' is based on the BBC television program ''Have I Got News for You''. On 28 June 1996, the first episode of ''Dit was het nieuws'' was aired by broadcasting station TROS on the Nederland 2 channel. The team leaders were Thomas Acda and Raoul Heertje, and the show was hosted by Harm Edens. Initially, the program garnered the same bleak impression that many failed attempts of satirical television in the Netherlands had given in the past. Thomas Acda
Thomas Acda (born Amsterdam, 6 March 1967) is a Dutch singer, actor and comedian, known as a member of the duo Acda en De Munnik. Acda grew up in De Rijp. After graduating high school at hoger algemeen voortgezet onderwijs, havo level, Acda started the theater school, but soon switched to the Kleinkunstacademie in Amsterdam. There he met Paul de Munnik. They finished school in 1993 with a joint project for which they were awarded the Pisuisse-prize. After that they split up and went their own way. In 1995, Acda en De Munnik came together again to make a theater show with the name ''Zwerf'On''. The show was a success, and they were asked to put the songs from the show on CD. From that moment on, Acda en the Munnik were involved in both music and theater productions. Acda was active on several projects. He was in the band Herman en Ik. General elections were held in the Netherlands on Wednesday 9 June 2010. This was triggered by the fall of Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende's fourth cabinet on 20 February with Queen Beatrix accepting the resignation of the Labour Party (PvdA) ministers on 23 February. The conservative-liberal People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), led by Mark Rutte, won the largest number of seats in the House of Representatives while the social-democratic PvdA, led by Job Cohen, came a narrow second. The election was also noted for the rise of the Party for Freedom (PVV), which came third, led by controversial politician Geert Wilders. On the other hand, Balkenende's Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) saw a poor result, losing half its seats (along with popular support) and dropping from first to fourth place.
