Desulfobacterota
The Thermodesulfobacteriota, or Desulfobacterota, are a phylum of anaerobic Gram-negative bacteria. Many representatives are sulfate-reducing bacteria, others can grow by disproportionation of various sulphur species, reduction or iron, or even use external surfaces as electron acceptors ( exoelectrogens). They have highly variable morphology: vibrio, rods, cocci, as well as filamentous cable bacteria. Individual members of Desulfobacterota are also studied for their bacterial nanowires or syntrophic relationships. Taxonomy The bacterial phylum Desulfobacterota has been created by merging: 1) the well-established class Thermodesulfobacteria, 2) the proposed phylum Dadabacteria, and 3) various taxa separated from the abandoned non-monophyletic class "Deltaproteobacteria" alongside three other phyla: Myxococcota, Bdellovibrionota, and SAR324. Dissulfuribacter Thermophilus
''Dissulfuribacter thermophilus'' is a thermophilic, autotrophic, sulfur-disproportionating bacterium with Gram-negative staining, short rod shape, and a single flagellum. The species is notable for its ability to disproportionate elemental sulfur at high temperatures combined with the inability to perform dissimilatory sulfate reduction. The type strain of this species, ''Dissulfuribacter thermophilus'' S69T, was isolated from an active deep-sea hydrothermal vent. Discovery The type strain S69T ( = DSM 25762T = VKM B-2760T) was isolated from a chimney of an active deep-sea hydrothermal vent in the depth of 1910 m at Mariner hydrothermal field on the Valu Fa Ridge in the Lau Basin, South Pacific Ocean. The collection was carried out in June 2009 using WHOI's ROV ''JASON II'' during a research cruise of the oceanographic vessel RV ''Thomas Thompson''. List Of Bacterial Orders
This article lists the orders of the Bacteria. The currently accepted taxonomy is based on the List of Prokaryotic names with Standing in Nomenclature (LPSN) and National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) and the phylogeny is based on 16S rRNA-based LTP release 132 by The All-Species Living Tree Project. Phylogeny National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) taxonomy was initially used to decorate the genome tree via tax2tree. The 16S rRNA-based Greengenes taxonomy is used to supplement the taxonomy particularly in regions of the tree with no cultured representatives. List of Prokaryotic names with Standing in Nomenclature (LPSN) is used as the primary taxonomic authority for establishing naming priorities. Pseudomonadati is a kingdom containing approximately one-third of prokaryote species, mostly gram-negative bacteria and their relatives. It is the closest relative of an even larger kingdom of Bacteria, the Bacillati, which are mostly gram-positive bacteria. Names The synonymous name "Hydrobacteria" (hydro = "water") refers to the moist environment inferred for the common ancestor of those species. In contrast, species of Bacillati possess adaptations for life on land. List of Prokaryotic names with Standing in Nomenclature (LPSN) is an online database that maintains information on the naming and taxonomy of prokaryotes, following the taxonomy requirements and rulings of the International Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes. The database was curated from 1997 to June 2013 by Jean P. Euzéby. From July 2013 to January 2020, LPSN was curated by Aidan C. Parte. In February 2020, a new version of LPSN was published as a service of the Leibniz Institute DSMZ, thereby also integrating the Prokaryotic Nomenclature Up-to-date service and since 2022 LPSN is interconnected with the Type (Strain) Genome Server (TYGS), DSMZ's high-throughput platform for accurate genome-based taxonomy. Order () is one of the eight major hierarchical taxonomic ranks in Linnaean taxonomy. It is classified between family and class. In biological classification, the order is a taxonomic rank used in the classification of organisms and recognized by the nomenclature codes. An immediately higher rank, superorder, is sometimes added directly above order, with suborder directly beneath order. An order can also be defined as a group of related families. What does and does not belong to each order is determined by a taxonomist, as is whether a particular order should be recognized at all.
