Discovery Wings (UK)
Discovery Wings was a British TV channel devoted to documentaries regarding aircraft and as a brand extension of '' Wings'', a staple documentary programme of the Discovery Channel throughout the 1990s. In the United States it has been replaced by the Military Channel, which still has a large portion of its programming dedicated to military aviation. The channel timeshared with Discovery Kids. The channel initially began broadcasting exclusively on the On Digital service as an evenings/overnight channel, timesharing with Discovery Kids. Both had been created for the created for On Digital, and was initially exclusive to that platform. However, it was only available on that platform for around 18 months because on 12 October 2001 it was announced that the main Discovery Channel would launch on ITV Digital on 17 October, with Discovery announcing that it would fully replace both Kids and Wings on 18 November. Discovery Channel (often referred to as simply Discovery) is a British pay television channel, operated by Warner Bros. Discovery. Its programming is based on programming produced by Discovery Networks Europe, Discovery Channel Canada and Discovery Channel from the US. Carlton World was a British digital television channel, launched on 15 November 1998 and closed down on 1 February 2000. Its sister channels were Carlton Kids, Carlton Food Network, Carlton Select and Carlton Cinema. ITV Digital was a British digital terrestrial television broadcaster which launched a pay-TV service on the world's first digital terrestrial television network. Its main shareholders were Carlton Communications plc and Granada plc, owners of multiple licences of the ITV network. Starting as ONdigital in 1998, the service was rebranded as ITV Digital in July 2001. Low audience figures, piracy issues and an ultimately unaffordable multi-million pound deal with the Football League led to the broadcaster suffering large losses, and it entered administration in March 2002. Discovery Kids was a British and Irish pay television channel targeted towards a child audience.
