Dirk Hooijer
Dirk Albert Hooijer (30 May 1919 – 26 November 1993) was a Dutch paleontologist. Hooijer was born in Medan on Sumatra, but spent his youth in Bogor on Java. In 1932, his family moved to The Hague where he finished his high school education at Dalton Den Haag school in 1937. Subsequently, he studied geology on the University of Leiden. In 1941 he joined the staff of the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie in Leiden, where he was especially interested in fossil rhinoceroses and hippopotami. In 1946, he became curator of the Dubois collection. In the same year he promoted under Professor Hilbrand Boschma (1893–1976) with his dissertation ''Prehistoric and fossil Rhinoceroses from the Malay Archipelago and India''. From 1950 to 1951 he got a Rockefeller fellowship and worked at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Elephas Celebensis
''Stegoloxodon'' is an extinct genus of dwarf elephant known from the Early Pleistocene of Indonesia. It contains two species, ''S. indonesicus'' from Java, and ''S. celebensis'' from Sulawesi. Its relationship with other elephants is uncertain. Taxonomy ''S. celebensis'' was originally described as ''Archidiskodon'' ''celebensis'' in 1949 by Dirk Albert Hooijer. ''S. indonesicus'' was originally described by Miklós Kretzoi based on a molar found near Bumiayu, originally attributed to ''Elephas planifrons'', who coined the genus ''Stegoloxodon'' to contain the species. Babyrousa Bolabatuensis
''Babyrousa bolabatuensis'', the Bola Batu babirusa, is a species of babirusa from the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. It was first described in 1950 as a subspecies of ''Babyrousa babyrussa'', then the only recognized species of babirusa, and raised to species rank by Colin Groves and Erik Meijaard in 2002. At present the Bola Batu babirusa is only known for certain from subfossil remains from the southern arm of Sulawesi. Based on a single skull from central Sulawesi it has been suggested that babirusas from this part of Sulawesi represent an extant population of the Bola Batu babirusa, and this was followed in the third edition of ''Mammal Species of the World''.
