The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's science and knowledge service which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to European Union (EU) policy. Leadership The JRC is a directorate-general of the European Commission under the responsibility of Iliana Ivanova, the European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth. The current acting Director-General of the JRC is Bernard Magenhann. Its Board of Governors assists and advises the Director-General on matters relating to the role and the scientific, technical and financial management of the JRC. European School
A European School () is a type of international school emphasising a multilingual and multicultural pedagogical approach to the teaching of nursery, primary and secondary students, leading to the European Baccalaureate as their secondary leaving qualification. Each European School is set up, financed, and operated by the international organisation, the " European Schools", controlled jointly by the member states of the European Union and the European Commission. European Research Advisory Board
EURAB was the European Research Advisory Board from 2001 to 2007. Its successor – since 2008 – is the European Research Area Board (ERAB). About It is a high-level, independent, advisory committee created by the European Commission to provide advice on the design and implementation of EU research policy. EURAB is made up of 45 (ERAB: 22) top experts from EU countries and beyond. Its members are nominated in a personal capacity and come from a wide range of academic and industrial backgrounds, as well as representing other societal interests. European Research Council
The European Research Council (ERC) is a public body for funding of scientific and technological research conducted within the European Union (EU). Established by the European Commission in 2007, the ERC is composed of an independent Scientific Council, its governing body consisting of distinguished researchers, and an Executive Agency, in charge of the implementation. It forms part of the framework programme of the union dedicated to research and innovation, Horizon 2020, preceded by the Seventh Research Framework Programme (FP7). European Research Area
The European Research Area (ERA) is a system of scientific research programs integrating the scientific resources of the European Union (EU). Since its inception in 2000, the structure has been concentrated on European cooperation in the fields of medical, environmental, industrial, and socioeconomic research. The ERA can be likened to a research and innovation equivalent of the European " common market" for goods and services. Jean-Albert Dinkespiler (1927–2014) was a French engineer and former Chief of the European Joint Research Centre. Early life Dinkespiler was born in Paris. He studied Marine and Aeronautical Engineering. Career Space research Dinkespiler joined the Centre national d'études spatiales ( CNES, the French space agency) in 1962, which had been recently formed in December 1961. Between 1967 and 1974, Dinkespiler was Director of Programmes and Planning at the European Space Research Organisation ( ESRO) in Paris, which was merged in 1975 to form the European Space Agency (ESA).
