Diplomatic License
''Diplomatic License'' was a weekly CNN International news program covering the United Nations which ran from 1994 to 2006. The show takes its name from the legal concept of diplomatic immunity. It was hosted by Richard Roth, CNN's UN correspondent and executive produced by Liz Neisloss. The program featured interviews with UN insiders such as Mark Malloch Brown, chief of staff to former Secretary-General Kofi Annan, as well as with Annan himself. Additionally, the program featured debates among a rotating panel of journalists covering the UN and international diplomacy, moderated by Roth. Richard Roth (journalist)
Richard Roth (born 1955) is an American journalist, a CNN correspondent who covers the United Nations. He was the host of ''Diplomatic License'' (until its cancellation in January 2006), a weekly program that was devoted to United Nations affairs. Roth is a CNN "original" — one of the first employees when the network launched in 1980. He has covered a wide range of stories over the last 25 years, from the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests to the fall of the Berlin Wall and the first Gulf War. Biography Roth was born into a Jewish family, Roth graduated from New York University with a degree in journalism. Roth lived in Whitestone, Queens, in the early 1970s. Mark Malloch Brown
George Mark Malloch Brown, Baron Malloch-Brown (born 16 September 1953) is a British diplomat, communications consultant, journalist and former politician serving as president of Open Society Foundations since 2021, having previously served as Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations under Kofi Annan from April to December 2006. A former member of the Labour Party, he served as Minister of State for Africa and the United Nations in the Brown government from 2007 to 2009. Kofi Annan
Kofi Atta Annan (; 8 April 193818 August 2018) was a Ghanaian diplomat who served as the seventh secretary-general of the United Nations from 1997 to 2006. Annan and the UN were the co-recipients of the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize. He was the founder and chairman of the Kofi Annan Foundation, as well as chairman of The Elders, an international organisation founded by Nelson Mandela. Annan studied economics at Macalester College, international relations at the Graduate Institute Geneva, and management at MIT. Annan joined the UN in 1962, working for the World Health Organization's Geneva office.
