Dinesh Gunawardena
Dinesh Chandra Rupasinghe Gunawardena (, ; born 2 March 1949) is a Sri Lankan politician who served as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka from 2022 to 2024. He also held the positions of Ministry of Home Affairs (Sri Lanka), Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government. Gunawardena has been leader of the left-wing Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) party since 1983, was briefly the ''de facto'' leader of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna from 2022 to 2023, and has taken cabinet positions under several previous governments, including Leader of the House (Sri Lanka), Leader of the House from 2020 until 2022. Srimani Anoma Athulathmudali MP (née de Seram; 27 April 1946 – 1 December 2004) () was a Sri Lankan politician and a former government minister who held the position of minister of Environment, Transport and Women's Affairs under the Wijetunga cabinet appointed by the former Sri Lankan president, D.B. The Sri Lanka People's Front (; ), commonly known by its Sinhalese name Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), is a political party in Sri Lanka. It was the ruling party in Sri Lanka from 2019 to 2022 and was the largest party in Parliament of Sri Lanka, parliament from 2020 to 2024. Don Philip Rupasinghe Gunawardena (11 January 1901 – 26 March 1972) was a Sri Lankan Marxist politician and leftist. A founder of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party, the first political party in Ceylon which was known for having introduced Trotskyism, he later founded the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (along with William de Silva) and was called 'the Father of Socialism' and 'the Lion of Boralugoda'. The Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (People's United Front) is a political party in Sri Lanka. The party is currently led by former Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, son of Philip Gunawardena, the founder of the party. History Under Philip Gunawardena The MEP was founded in 1959 by Philip Gunawardena and PH William de Silva. Jeyaraj Fernandopulle (, , 11 January 1953 – 6 April 2008) was a Sri Lankan politician who served as a cabinet Minister and a Member of Parliament in Sri Lanka. He was a Roman Catholic and hailed from a minority ethnic group Colombo Chetties. Early life Fernandopulle was born on the 11 January 1953 in Welihena, Kochchikade (about 12 km north of Negombo).
